Common Mistakes of people when using Abstinence :( Talk about Sex website).
-Couples don’t really avoid any behavior that involves an exchange of body fluid or skin to skin contact all the time.
-Hard to talk with partner about Abstinence.
II. Hormone Patch (Contraceptive Patch):
-The contraceptive patch (Evra®) is a new method of birth control which is small, round as bandage that sticks and placed directly on a woman’s skin and continuously releases estrogen and a progestin into the bloodstream. It prevents pregnancy primarily by stopping the ovaries from releasing an egg, and it may also thicken the cervical mucus which makes it harder for sperm to get into the uterus (“Hormonal Methods” Sexuality and U.ca). It’s safe, and convenient.
Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) is a growing concern within the United States. This paper discusses what NAS is and the effects it has on the newborn infant. If first discusses the incidence of NAS as regard to maternal age, race, and ethnicity. It explains the types of drugs most commonly associated with Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome. However, I have excluded alcohol from this paper because it results in Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. This paper will then explain the types of physical symptoms associated with NAS for the full-term and premature infant. It discusses the different classes of drugs and the unique symptoms newborns experience with each. Furthermore, it discusses the long-term cognitive and behavioral effects that newborns can experience as they grow. In addition, this paper discusses how Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome is diagnosed and the how the Finnegan neonatal scoring system is used to help physicians determine the severity of NAS in each newborn. Lastly, this paper explains the treatment for NAS and the important roles of the nurse when caring for a newborn with Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome.
Masters and Johnson were a pioneering team in the field of human sexuality, both in the domains of research and therapy. William Howell Masters, a gynecologist, was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1915. Virginia Eshelman Johnson, a psychologist, was born in Springfield, Montana in 1925. To fully appreciate their contribution, it is necessary to see their work in historic context. In 1948, Alfred C. Kinsey and his co-workers, responding to a request by female students at Indiana University for more information on human sexual behavior, published the book Sexual Behavior in the Human Male. They followed this five years later with Sexual Behavior in the Human Female. These books began a revolution in social awareness of and public attention given to human sexuality. At the time, public morality severely restricted open discussion of sexuality as a human characteristic, and specific sexual practices, especially sexual behaviors that did not lead to procreation. Kinsey's books, which among other things reported findings on the frequency of various sexual practices including homosexuality, caused a furor. Some people felt that the study of sexual behavior would undermine the family structure and damage American society. It was in this climate - one of incipient efforts to break through the denial of human sexuality and considerable resistance to these efforts - that Masters and Johnson began their work. Their primary contribution has been to help define sexuality as a healthy human trait and the experience of great pleasure and deep intimacy during sex as socially acceptable goals. As a physician interested in the nature of sexuality and the sexual experience, William Masters wanted to conduct research that would lead to an objective understanding of these topics. In 1957, he hired Virgina Johnson as a research assistant to begin this research issue. Together they developed polygraph-like instruments that were designed to measure human sexual response. Using these tools, Masters and Johnson initiated a project that ultimately included direct laboratory observation and measurement of 700 men and women while they were having intercourse or masturbating. Based on the data collected in this study, they co-authored the book Human Sexual Response in 1966. In this book, they identify and describe four phases in the human sexual response cycle : excitement, plateau, orgasm, and resolution. By this point in time, the generally repressive attitude toward sexuality was beginning to lift and the book found a ready audience.
After reading about the abstinence experience assignment, giving up the daytime show “The Young and the Restless” came to mind. However, my immediate answer to myself was “no way.” I attempted to think of something else that would be more difficult. I find it odd that dieting did not come to mind during my pre-contemplation stage. I kept trying to come up with something other than giving up my favorite show. I attempted to minimize the impact that missing the show would have on me by telling myself that the Young and the Restless show really is not be a big deal ; I needed to find something else that would give me a true feel for what a person who is attempting to abstain from drug use would experience. However, I decided that giving up the Young and the Restless Show would be very difficult for me. After all I have watched the Young and the Restless show since I was in the 6th grade. I remember lying on the hallway floor and hiding beside my grandparents couch to secretly watch the show. My parents and grandparents did not allow children to watch these types of shows. I debated for several days and changed my start date twice. Finally, I began the abstinence experience on July 10, 2010. July 10, 2010 is a Saturday; I usually watch any shows that I missed during the week on Saturday’s.
Contraception, contragestion, (preventing the fertilized egg from implantation - morning-after-pill) and the chemical or surgical induction of abortion are all types of birth control routes to prevent or end pregnancy (“What”). Contraception is the devices, drugs, agents, sexual practices, or surgical procedures to prevent a pregnancy. Contraception tends to help a women decide if and when she would want to have a baby (“What”). There are around 17 different types of birth control methods. According to the article from Oxford there are three main categories of contraception. They are the barrier methods, intrauterine, and the hormonal methods (“Contraception”). They vary from a pill, patch, shot, an implant and a condom to name a few. The most common type of contraception for women is the birth control pill. This pill includes estrogen and progestin to stop the release of the egg and thin the lining of the uterus. If the contraception device is used correctly, only about 3 in every 1,000 women will beco...
Two major types of birth control are contraceptives and condoms. Condoms prevent STDs by stopping the flow of semen in to the vaginal canal. Contraceptives are more complex. Birth control contraceptives help to prevent pregnancies by combining the hormones estrogen and progesterone to prevent the egg from being released during the monthly cycle. Not only do the contraceptives prevent the egg from dropping but they also thicken the mucus around the cervix making it hard for sperm to enter the uterus just in case any eggs were released. A pregnant horse stands confined to a small stall, packed into a crowded facility with numerous others just like her. She has been through many pregnancies in her life, never having the chance to bond with her foals and she exists to serve one purpose - to make a profit. This is the life of a horse on a Pregnant Mares’ Urine Farm. The facility that exists to produce a drug called Premarin. Although Premarin is used in Hormone Replacement Therapy for menopausal women, Premarin should not be used because of the effects it has on the mares.

Abstinence is the fact or practice from restraining oneself from indulging in something like sex. My reasons for Abstinence are STI’s, Pregnancy, Emotional Distress, Spiritual Conflict, Social Challenges, You’re not ready, Parents, and finally Responsibility.
When I first saw this assignment on the syllabus I wondered what I should do. After several discussions with friends I discovered I had several choices. I could give up caffeine (but none of my friends would be around me), I could give up Facebook, but I don’t think that would bother me in the long run, I could also give up Netflix, but that wouldn’t really bother me either. After much consideration if I wanted an experience that would mimic a substance abuse disorder I had to give up chocolate.
An open relationship is heavily reliant on communication and rules. With most open marriage, the married couple compile a list of rules they each must follow. One of the most common rules involves protection from sexually transmitted infections or diseases. It’s important to the health of all individuals that the rules are strictly followed. n many cases, these set rules fail either intentionally or by accident. An open lifestyle can involve spontaneous partners that aren’t always truthful about cleanliness. In these cases, one partner unknowingly leaves with a sexual infection or disease and later passes it to their husband or wife. Various infections or diseases don’t show symptoms at all or until a later time period. The individual or couple can then pass it to others unintentionally. In a miscommunication, various parties can become hurt. Both members of the primary couple could receive a sexual infection or disease without realizing it. Also, the situation might break one of the couple’s rules. Rule breaking results in hurt feeling and damage to the foundation of the relationship. Emotions such as betrayal, hurt, and anger often result from rule breaking. A strong relationship could crumble under these circumstances and leave both partners in a bad situation. To sum up, threats to the physical health of those involved damage an open
The Guttmacher Institute reports that, “58% of all pill users rely on the method at least in part, for purposes other than pregnancy prevention—meaning that only 42% use the pill exclusively for contraceptive reasons” (Wind). Some females are plagued with intolerable menstrual cramps or intermittent periods, which can often be a nuisance. Oral contraceptives can assist with both issues. Other methods, such as an IUD or the birth control patch, are effective in treating menstrual-related disorders. These disorders include, but are not limited to endometriosis and Polycystic ovarian syndrome. Despite this information, some individuals believe that birth control should not be used for the treatment of side effects or to cope with a disorder. However, doctors prescribe these contraceptives since they are more effective in treating the symptom or disorder along with other menstrual-related ailments, thus making them versatile. Many infirmities that are caused by menstruation could be eased by allowing birth control to be obtainable by female
Abortion is the operation to end a pregnancy by removing a fetus or an embryo from the womb. This topic has been one of the most prominent controversies in the United States. A human’s life is special in all stages and should not be taken away for any reason. The robbing of someone’s life at any point is morally wrong and is a crime according to religion and the law regarding murder. If one cannot assume the responsibilities of taking care of a human until they are able to survive on their own, then intercourse is not recommended.
There are a large variety of birth control options in the market these days. These options include the patch, the ring, and the shot. The shot, of the hormone progestin, is applied in the arm or buttock every 12 weeks to, prevent release of egg or, prevent fertilized egg from implanting in uterus. The patch a thin plastic places on the skin of the buttocks, stomach, upper outer arm, or upper torso once a week for three weeks in a row. The ring is a small, flexible hoop inserted deep into the vagina for three weeks in a row and taken out the fourth week. The Ring protects against pregnancy by releasing estrogen and progestin.
Growing up, my parents never discusses the topic of sex with my siblings and I. Growing up in a strict Christian household the topic of sex was never brought up. I remember bringing home a permission form to be signed to take part in sex education class. I knew my parents were against me part-taking in the sex education class so I pretend to trash permission form and sign my parents’ signature. Signing the permission form was one of my greatest ideas as a kid growing up. I was only interesting in being a part of the class because I knew my friends were going to be there and I did not want to be “the outsider”. During the sex education class I remember watching different videos about safe sex and unsafe sex. Deep inside I knew I didn’t know anything about sex or even thought about that word until that day. After that day I walked home knowing that I had no knowledge about human sexuality. Of course I never told my parents I took the sex education class, one less punishment to avoid.
