Abortion is something that is performed by millions of women a year who do not think twice about the decision that they are making. Most of these women who perform abortion do so simply because they cannot take care of a baby themselves. A question that many may ask is, should abortion be legal? Abortion should be illegal in the United States.
In 1973, abortion first became legal in the United States because of rule over both pro-rule and pro-choice. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Roe v. Wade that as a right to their constitutional privacy, women could terminate a pregnancy during the first two trimesters. They have stated that only during the third trimester could the fetus survive outside of the womb. During the 27th week is when the second

Worldwide, some 20 to 30 million legal abortions are performed each year with another 10 to 20 million performed illegal. While women of every social class do seek terminations, the typical women who ends her pregnancy is young, white, unmarried, poor, or over the age of 40. When most people think of females who take action in abortion they think of young adults who get pregnant when they are not planning to have the responsibility of having a child, and just “having fun” with guys. Even though this may remain true to some of the abortions that are performed, it is not exactly accurate. Fifty-six percent of the women who terminate their pregnancy are in there 20’s, while teenagers between 15 and 19 made up 19 percent of abortions. In the year 2002, six in ten women who had abortions were …show more content…
Those who are against abortion would state that it is a human being who is being murdered inside of the mother’s womb during the abortion process. Yet those who are not against the act of abortion would state that it is a fetus that cannot survive outside of the womb. Since they think that the baby could not survive outside of the womb and is not fully developed, it is not considered a human being. Even though a baby in a mother’s womb may not be completely formed does not mean that it is far from having the same traits as a living human being. Also, many who think abortion should be legal often use the term “fetus” to refer to the unborn child, which is a clinical term derived from a Latin word that means “offspring” or “newly delivered”. In Dorland’s Illustrated Medical Dictionary, a fetus is: the unborn offspring in the postembryonic period, after major structures have been outlined, in humans from nine weeks after fertilization until birth. In this definition, the word “fetus” is applicable from nine weeks after fertilization until birth. Yet, numerous major news organizations and many common people have constantly continued to misplace this
According to St. Thomas Aquinas, Catholic priest and philosopher, a fetus is not a human being because it does not possess language or articulated thought - one of the defining aspects of human nature (qtd. in Eco 51). Theoretically speaking, a fetus is not a human until it can think and talk. With that being clarified, the rest of the essay will first include arguments for, and then arguments against, abortion. The main problem in the world is inevitable abortion. Because it is about morality; which people tend pay more attention. Nowadays, Abortion is a controversial problem as people think of appropriateness. However, Abortion is necessary in many cases. Three main reasons why abortion should be banned are condition that women are not pregnancy, health problem in mother, and social problem.
The most common conflicts that cause a woman to get an abortion are based on their own personal responsibilities. Sixteen percent of women, who get abortions, believe that their life would be changed too much to acquire a child. Twenty-one percent of expectant mothers feel that they are not ready for the responsibility to care for an adolescent. Few as twelve percent have complications with relationships or are unmarried. One perecent have been raped and/or incested. Twenty-one percent have financial disputes. Eight percent currently bare children and have all they wish for. Three percent have discovered that the baby in the womb has health issues. Four perecent of the abortions are other reasons. Lastly, the abortion pill used to minimize the fetus, does not work, therefore the woman receives an
There are thousands of women in the world make the mistake of getting pregnant. Yes, there are forms of contraception but they are not 100% effective in preventing pregnancy. Approximately 1.4 million abortion procedures are done each year in the United States, with 30% of those women being younger than forty-five years old (ProCon). Without abortion, there would be an abundance of children who are brought into the world unwanted and not being able to have the essentials they need to go through life successfully. The most difficult responsibility a woman would have to go through is finances. 85% of women who wish to have an abortion are unmarried and have to support the child alone (“Abortion Procedures”). Abortion can save a woman from going through financial distress when she is aware that she is not financially stable. Teen pregnancy is common in the world and they are not at a point in life where taking care of someone else, other than themselves, is possible to do alone. Thirty-nine states allow minors to go through the abortion procedure with parent consent (“Abortion Procedures”). All fifty states should allow this because if teens could not receive that choice, then they would have to carry an unwanted baby that they could not take care of after giving birth. Most abortion procedures are during the first trimester (Lowen). During the first weeks of pregnancy the development of the fetus is a gather of cells, therefore killing cells is not killing an actual person so abortion should not be considered murder.
The words of an unborn baby are ones that almost no one ever thinks of, or hears. One of this country's most controversial topics is abortion. However, if one sees the constitutional infringement to women by the restriction of abortion; the torment to the unwanted child; and the anguish society has to sustain, then this topic would not be so debatable. Too many people do not see the effect that abortions cause. It is a very dangerous offence that affects the mother, father, the community, and most importantly, the fetus, and that is why abortion should be illegal in Canada. First, abortion is against God’s law in many Holy books such as the Bible and the Quran. Secondly, abortion does not only affect the individual, but the community as a whole, and the rights of those people are infringed on. However, abortion does nothing in the cases of rape, or women’s rights, which is the constant argument people in favour of abortion argue. And lastly, abortion should be seen for what it is, murder.
For more than 30 years, the United States has been separated over the issue of abortion. Abortion is the deliberate killing of the most innocent nature among us, babies whom are not yet born. In 1973, abortion was legalized in the United States via the famous court case of Roe vs Wade. Roe was a single and pregnant woman who was fighting the state of Texas where the law stated she was not allowed to get an abortion. Roe won the case and abortion was legalized. Even though millions of abortions have been performed since 1973, the debate over whether it ever should have been legalized is strongly argued by many Americans, as well as people of many other countries and cultures. Today, the separation of the United States would be the “Pro-choice” group vs. the “Pro-life” group. Abortion is the biggest problem for Christianity today, and is completely against their religion. Abortion being legal is one of the worst parts about today’s society. It is going against the laws of the government yet they still allow it. Abortion should be illegal in the United States because it is unlawful and against human nature.
Abortion, which is defined as a deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, is one of the most controversial issues in society. Many people believe that abortion is unethical and morally wrong, while others believe that it is a woman’s right to decide what to do with her body. According to www.census.gov, “the number of abortions performed annually in the U.S. has leveled off at 1.2 million a year” (1). This statistic supports how many women are choosing abortion. Although abortion is legal in the United States, many people continue to voice their opinions on how it is a human rights violation and should be illegal everywhere.
In order for the pro-life argument to be valid, it must have both a true premise and true conclusion. It falls short of validity by assuming that a fetus up to 22 weeks old is a person, and has its own rights independent of its host, or what we often refer to as its mother. First we must recognize the subtle, yet extremely important distinction between a human being and a person. It is obvious that a fetus is a member of the human ...
Being a mother is a lifelong job that requires copious time, energy, and money. There are myriad different reasons in which a woman would consider getting an abortion. The decision is often tragic and painful for the mother. It is one of the biggest choices a woman will make. Many people have strong beliefs about abortion, and if a mother makes a decision that they do not agree with they sometimes turn against the mother, and enkindle egregious feelings about their decision for the rest of their life. Indeed a woman may not get an abortion for selfish reasons or out of convenience, but out of a desire to protect certain important values such as her own health or a decent standard of living for the other members of the family. Additional intentions for having abortion include rape, financial difficulties, obligation by family members, or danger to the baby’s health (Roleff
Abortion defined is the termination of pregnancy by the removal or expulsion from the uterus of a fetus or embryo prior to viability. Each year in the United States 1.6 million abortions are performed with 91% of them being performed during the first trimester (under 12 weeks of gestation). There are second trimester abortions as well (under 24 weeks of gestation) which occurs in 9% of the accumulative abortions a year in the United States. And about 100 abortions are performed in the third trimester (above 24 weeks gestation) this is approximately .01% of all abortions. 1.5 million U.S. women with unwanted pregnancies will choose abortion each year.
A mother kills her unborn child because it is unwanted, but she's not charged for murder. Is it right? There is about 46 million abortions per year worldwide, and approximately 115,000 per day, but why? Is it because rape or incest, health problems with either the mother or the child, or just because the baby's unwanted or inconvenient at the time? (The Alan Guttmacher Institute.) Abortion should be banned because too many babies are being killed from abortion, if you don't want a child you could always put it up for adoption, and most mothers don't understand the consequences that occur from abortion.
Through every choice in life, there is a decision that must follow. Abortion is a woman’s individual choice; therefore, must be a legal part in todays society. Individual rights have an outstanding role in the controversial topic, on whether abortion should become legal in the United States . The individual rights for abortion show rights of life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. As well, women should be able to have the choice to choose to have an abortion for several important reasons. The right to make these decisions should lie in the hands of the “mother” to make decisions concerning their own to make decisions concerning their own bodies. In addition, women should be given the choice to have an abortion if they are too young and unable to take care their child financially or emotionally. Additionally, the right to have an abortion is if the pregnancy negatively affects the woman's or the baby's health. Without abortions as a choice for the “mother” to resort to while she is going through hardship on deciding whether to keep the baby or not, the endless possibilities could negatively influence the mother to put her and the baby in a dangerous positions.
In certain contexts, the “late-term” descriptor is applied to indicate fetal development that has advanced to the point where there is a high probability of survival outside the uterus. With this definition, all third trimester and some second trimester abortions are included since the contemporary age of viability is approximately 22-24 weeks. The authors of two articles published in 1998 in the same issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association could not agree on when in pregnancy an abortion should be considered late-term
A study was conduction from January 2008 through December 2010 to shed some insight as to why women seek abortions. The study interviewed 954 women from 30 abortion facilities across the United States. The women were English or Spanish speaking and at least 15 years of age. They responded to two
I believe that abortion should be banned. I strongly feel that pregnant women who want to abort their child/fetus should not be allowed to. For one, should one person alone be allowed to control the fate of another? Technically, abortion is murder, since the baby is being killed purposely. Some say that in the early days or weeks of pregnancy (maybe even in the first couple months) the baby is in fact not alive; it is just a bunch of cells. However, the fetus is breathing, and obtaining nutrients from the mother before she even knows that she is pregnant. Within no time, the fetus also has human characteristics: a head, hands, legs, arms, feet, and a torso. Thus, abortion should be legalized only when murder becomes legal, because abortion is murder.
