A Proposal to Stop the Poaching of the Siberian Tiger One of the world’s most beautiful creatures, the Siberian tiger, has been roaming earth for many years. The Siberian tiger subspecies has been subjected to many obstacles, which make it very difficult for it to survive. Their main threat is not lack of food, but “man,” one of God’s most fierce and cruel species. Because of man the tiger population has reduced to approximately 400 in the wild, and restricted their remaining habitat to the Russian Far East (Field Projects). Man has done many things to destroy the Russian Siberian tiger. They have cut down forests and moved in on the tiger’s territory, causing them to flee and become fragmented throughout Siberia making it hard for them to mate and hunt. Poaching has also made it difficult for the tiger to survive. Man has illegally killed this magnificent animal over decades for sport, food, trade, medicinal purposes, and to protect their livestock. Though man is very powerful and capable of causing the extinction of the Siberian tiger, they are also capable of helping the tiger to survive. Many people are supporting conservation organizations in order to help the surviving population of the Siberian tiger. These conservation organizations are trying to stop the annihilation of the Siberian tiger by strengthening anti-poaching patrols, establishing a compensation program for farmers, and educating people. According to researchers, “between 1990 and 1994 approximately sixty tigers were poached a year” (Field Projects). Some Russian experts predicted, “that, if no immediate measures were taken, the Siberian tiger would go extinct soon after the year 2000” (Field Projects). The Russian ministry of environment began a project... ... middle of paper ... ...ob to clean up what we started and end the illegal killing and help the tiger population to expand and survive in their habitat. Many foundations have been funded in order to make this possible, it is also our job to make sure they stay in effect to eventually end the poaching of the Siberian tiger. Richard Burge noted in Riding the Tiger, “The tiger is more than a charismatic predator: it is a keystone subspecies in its environment. By saving the tiger in the world, we save complex ecosystems and habitats that would otherwise be destroyed in the relentless march of human need and, all too often, greed” (U. S. Fish & Wildlife Conservation Act). Works Cited “Field Projects.” 5 Tigers. 3 October 2001. < http://web.intern.nl.net/users/tiger/fieldprojects.html> United States Fish & Wildlife Service. “By the time we’re done, it’s quite possible that there will be among the great apes not a single representative left, except, that is, for us,” Kolbert deduces (225). Hunting a species has caused the endangerment and extinction of many species of animals and plants. Six out of eight species of the world’s bears are categorized as “vulnerable” or “endangered” to extinct (222). Advocating for rights of endangered species, and protecting the forests they habitat is a noteworthy method to prevent extinction caused by humans. As an individual, one could help by supporting and donating to organizations such as the World Wildlife Fund, the National Wildlife Federation, the Wildlife Conservation Society, and more (262). Humans may ease their conscience by not actively killing endangered species, but protecting them
Technology has advanced a lot and has been greatly impacting our lives since the Industrial Revolution. The appearance of the mobile phone, the computer, and the tablets have all changed our ability to communicate with people around the world. Although technologies have greatly improved our lifestyle, they have brought many negative effects on our relationships and happiness as well, for instance distorting people's views on one another and bringing more loneliness to people's lives. Many people believe that benefited by social media platforms such as Facebook, it is now not necessary to talk to someone in person in order to effectively communicate with one and know one’s life. Others, however, believe that technology alone cannot replace

...uld result in a two-thirds decline in the world wide polar bear populations in the next 50 years, and since the species has been listed as threatened under the Act, it has experienced stabilization and in some cases increases proving the effectiveness of the efforts put in place. All of these reasons, in conjunction with a plethora of others support the decision to leave the species with a threatened title and arguments against this designation are only backed with mistaken values and thoughts. As we enter a new era of technology, the human population must realize that we create many unintended effects which resonate throughout the other species and environments around the world. As the dominant species on earth, humans must do their part to conserve the natural environment of the world so that important species and aspects of natural history are not eliminated.
A social outrage has broken recently amid the scandal of Cecil the Lion’s death. Cecil was illegally hunted and killed by the American dentist Walter Palmer. Since then, it has caused the world to change their minds on the effects of trophy hunting. Succeeding the death of the renowned lion, a recent poll in America displays that on a three to one margin, the respondents said they would rather be tourists in a country that prohibits trophy hunting, instead of one that does not. The debate is ascending as more hunters proudly present their ‘trophy’ on social media. Many nature conservatives and animal protection agencies are raising awareness because of the fact that Cecil died in a meaningless and violent manner. The problem is not only in America, but around the globe. Trophy hunting should be illegal in the world because it is merely killing animals without a meaningful purpose, and it produces harmful effects to the environment.

In both positive and negative ways, human’s actions are always affecting the lives of animals as well. To reduce future endangerments, we can work to decrease competition between humans and animals (Wyatt, Tristram D. 110). We can also work to understand interactions and aspects of animal behavior that can help us to protect threatened animals. (Wyatt, Tristram D. 113). Scientists can work to learn more about the effects of climate change due to humans and they can campaign to bring awareness to the negative effects we have on wildlife (Wyatt, Tristram D. 114). When humans are more informed about how we affect animals and how we can protect them, there is a much greater chance that they will survive or avoid
The belief “Hunting is leading to animal extinction” has some twists and turns. Although Jane Goodall notes that “wildlife trade is destroying natural selection process,” by saying “We are permitting the trophy hunting of the strongest, healthiest, and most powerful animals- those that should be leading their families and passing their genes on to future generations are being eradicated” others argue that hunting is actually helping conserve the ecosystem. She claims that “our appetite [hunting] is causing extinction.” Mike Lapierre argues that hunters are conservatives that seek to protect and maintain wildlife habitats. “Every year millions of hunter’s dollars pay for wildlife management” (Lapierre). With that financial support along with the help of organizations like Ducks Unlimited, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Pheasants Forever, and National Wild Turkey Federation, hunters have contributed to protecting and managing wildlife (Lapierre). Managing is their ultimate goal. Beca...
Throughout history, mass populations of mammals have become extinct. Despite their large size being an advantage when considering the likelihood of species becoming prey, populations have gone through significant periods of reduction (Kolbert 224). In recent years, species of bears, elephants, rhinos, large cats, and other mammals have become labeled as vulnerable or endangered (Kolbert 223). While these declining populations relate to natural processes that mammals go through, human activity remains one of the greatest threats to the extinction of these significant species. In some circumstances, human efforts are the only hope for reviving mammalian populations, by correcting behavior
The Siberian tiger is a solitary animal, preferring to travel and hunt alone or with a small pack. This animal lives in mountainous regions and heavily forested areas.
Instead of spending the money it cost to keep animals in captivity, they could instead use that same money to help preserve the animal’s habitats, protection, and ultimately the species
One method that has been proposed in order to reduce the mass slaughter of rhinos is the use of 3D synthetic of rhino horn. The theory behind creating a synthetic substitute is to flood the market by increasing the supply. By having a legally produced synthetic substitute that is genetically purer we can increase the quantity produced of rhino horn. The increase in quantity will increase the number of units of rhino horn available to the market shifting the supply curve right. This will reduce the scarcity of rhino horn.
The poaching of animals gets worse every year. Today, it threatens to erase decades of conservative gain and the last of the world's wild tigers. “There are only around 3,890 left outside of captivity.” Wildlife crime is a huge business that is run by dangerous international networks. Animal parts are trafficked much like illegal drugs and weapons. It
PY 4647: Humans, Animals, and Nature (Ben Sachs) Thom Almeida (110003776) Word count: 2,177 Intervention in Sovereign Wild Animal Communities Introduction In Zoopolis, Sue Donaldson and Will Kymlicka propose the notion that wild animals should be regarded as sovereign communities. Whilst noting that such sovereign entities would be fundamentally different from human societies, they argue that wild animals have the competence necessary to be accorded sovereign status within such communities. This paper will demonstrate that Donaldson’s and Kymlicka’s notion of sovereign wild animal communities is a sound position to determine in what kinds of situations human intervention in these communities is permissible.
This provides a legal safety net to stop and slow down the loss of plant and animal species. They hold federal agencies and others accountable for complying with laws protecting rare/endangered animals using persuasion and cooperation. They recommend increased funding for private landowners and conservation programs that could benefit animals. They protect and restore habitats that were lost. NWF also reduces threats to wildlife that can lead to endangerment including loss of habitat and pollution. India is now halting tiger tourism to prevent extinction of the animals. About 1,411 of these animals live in the wild, and they are in danger of being “loved to death.” Experts fear these big cats will become extinct in only five years. Poaching is the main reason for many deaths, but tourism has also impacted the tigers. The tourist vehicles drive away the tigers prey and hotels have been built over passageways the tigers used to travel from one place to another. Alligators, Bald Eagles, Wolves, Grizzly Bears, and Whooping Cranes were all saved by the U.S Endangered Species Act (ESA). The WWF is addressing the major threats to Australia’s
