“Demand more, Expect more, Achieve more.” A quote that I have cultivated as part of my academic and technical education in Greater Lawrence Technical School. As a senior in GLTS I have experienced life changing lessons that could only be taught in a school like this. The big stairs that greet us every morning accompanied by the joyous “Good Morning” given by our superintendent set a positive tone for our passion for learning. The way I see it is that by walking, sometimes even crawling these stairs every morning we are faced with a small task. A small exercise to get the blood flowing all over our body. Even to our most crucial instrument for learning, our brain. Sparking up our neurons, thus improving our cognitive skills for the rest of the day. These stairs are a symbol that with effort we will achieve academic and technical excellence. You just have to wake up early and walk up those stairs! There is a rewarding greeting up there. I decided to reproduce a reggie design. Featuring a bear on the front and a claw on the back of the shirt. All the graphics students wanted one as well. We ended up duplicating this shirt more times that I can remember. The whole project took us about a week. I see my classmates wearing that shirt everywhere. We like to show our reggie pride, promoting union and solidarity between us students. I wear my shirt to the supermarket, the park and I’ve catched people reading the big letters showcasing “REGGIES” on it. I feel responsible when I wear this shirt as my actions outside the school are a reflection of what we stand for. Our integrity, our conduct and good practices are to be bragged about everywhere. I genuinely love my school, as it has been to me a second home. Every friday we enter the halls of our school modelling our orange, black and white
I also took a greater appreciation in the Alumni Association and the Scotlandville community for all the funds they have invested and giving us programs that could help us with our secondary
Since the beginning of the 19th century, America has had to deal with the on going
Students are given the opportunity to live and go to school with other students that have similar ambitions at heart. At my school, it is extremely rare to find other students who also have the desire to do more than what is minimally required to pass their classes. Simply being placed in an environment where everyone wants to be at school, and working towards the best education possible, would not only be motivational, but inspiring. The experience of meeting current Gatton Academy students has alone given me the inspiration to reignite my dreams of making a difference in the scientific community. It is thrilling to even think about having this stimulation surrounding me on a daily basis.
