For my Out of the Box Activity, I watched a documentary that followed the story of 3 women who were tormented 24/7 with the need to have orgasm. The documentary explained how Persistent Sexual Arousal Syndrome (PSAS) causes this unusual condition characterized by throbbing, spontaneous and irrepressible genital arousal in females. PSAS is a little known neurological disorder and the victim's arousal is not linked to sexual desire. Most important to note is that PSAS is actually not related to hyper-sexuality, aka nymphomania. Not only is PSAS very rare, the disorder is seldom reported by the affected individual, who may think it is shameful and embarrassing or that they are the only people on the planet that have the disorder. Rachel, a woman from Atlanta, GA explains that she has to use rigorous control over her body to prevent a climax. “They come every 30 seconds for four to six [or] sometimes eight hours, and I'm sure that's well up in the hundreds - I'm not a math person, but I'm sure it's up there.” I cannot imagine having constant arousal with blood engorging in my genitals fo...

Hyper Sexual addiction is a disorder that can be defined as a person having a habitually elevated sex drive, fantasies, and urges. Nevertheless, compared to other sexual addictions, this could be known as one of the most riskiest and dangerous addiction. Hyper Sexual Addiction has become more prevalent because of the infidelities amongst some celebrities and political figures. Sexual addiction has always existed, but because of technology and social media, people have become more aware of it. People who suffer from this disorder are like drug addicts that crave drugs; they think they can stop, but the urges are constantly there. According to An Elements Behavioral Health article (2016), for the sex addict, sexual activity provides an intense,
A lot of men experiencing Premature Ejaculation also say that they have less control over ejaculating, with virtually everyone suffering from this wishing that they are able to go longer. When a man is affected with early climax, it-not just allows him from totally appreciating his sex-life, but in addition it leads to defeat, emotional and connection tension. The companion of someone experiencing Premature Ejaculation can be left frustrated and unsatisfied, and it’s that this deficiency of an effective sex-life which results in mental and relationship strain and worry. Although lesser ...
The medicalization of sex addiction demonstrates the lengths at which medical authority will go to inject another fabricated disease into the blood of society. While alleged sex addictions have existed for many years, they have only recently been accepted as valid excuses for sexual deviancy. Attitudes toward sex addiction in the past offer a stark contrast to how it is viewed today, as the constantly medicalizing society insists on putting everything under the technical microscope. Sex addiction is commonly associated with a person’s inability to control his sexual behavior, implying an abnormally high sex drive and obsession with sex which have negative effects on his personal life (MedicineNet 2007, 1). Rather than breaking down the science behind the disorder, a customary practice in today’s medicalized society, older attitudes towards sex addiction placed it under the same light as alcoholism, where a lack of control and unwillin... ...

Anxiety played an important role in the psychoanalytic theory, and, as a result, psychoanalytic interpretation is important to understand anxiety disorders. In the psychoanalytic interpretation, anxiety is defined an intense sensation of endangerment and an unconscious mechanism produced by unconscious conflicts. According to Wolman and Stricker (1994), it can be understood as a symptom that is the cause and effect of itself and a product of past experience, psychological mechanisms, and psychic contents like persecutory anxiety or separation anxiety. For Freud, nervous anxiety was produced by sexual frustration and repressed sexual drives, or libido. In his theory, sexual frustration creates a biochemical imbalance that results in anxiety. However, this idea does not have support on the empirical basis because there is not a biochemical process that correlates with Freud’s theory. In addition, on the psychological basis, sexually abstinent people do not always experience extreme anxiety (Wolman...
A kind of sexual dysfunction that affect men is generally termed as erectile dysfunction or impotence. As a result, the person will not be able to develop or maintain an erection of the penis during sexual intercourse. The term and condition is familiar for most of the people in the current society. It can be considered as one of the main causes for infertility issues. Studies have also found another surprising fact that, worse erectile dysfunction may increase the risk of cardiovascular disease, heart failure, peripheral vascular disease and ischemic heart disease etc. All these tend to recommend an early test and diagnosis for mild and moderate levels of erectile dysfunction in individuals. Before that, it is vital that you must understand what is erectile dysfunction and how could you identify it.
As a young girl at 14, I used to reminisce about the future, how badly I wanted to grow up, to drive, to be popular in high school, go to college and land an amazing job, have a huge home, nice cars, and an extremely handsome husband. The older I got, the more I began to realize all of the things I once desired for were not what I truly wanted. I began to realize the value of happiness, adventure, and creating memories rather than the value of temporary popularity, material items, and physical appearances. What I realized was that when one is lying on their deathbed, because the only thing guaranteed in life is death, they will not think, “oh what a lovely car I drove” but rather, “I remember when I went on my first road trip with my friends.” As mentioned in “Tuesdays With Morrie” by Mitch Albom, Morrie emphasizes the idea, “once you learn how to die, you learn how to live,” meaning, remembering that one day we will all depart from this world, one will realize what it truly means to live. Another pointer that can essentially alter one’s vision of living life: to live simply, as discussed in “Where I Lived and What I Live For” by David Henry Thoreau. Although thinking about death is a harsh reality on a young teenager, it is rather helpful to wrap our heads around it at a young age. Why? because as one grows older, they will see more death. Living a simple life may seem boring to a young teenager, but as one grows older and their schedules become bustled with work, and responsibilities, they will wish that they could step back, and choose a simple lifestyle.
In order to understand the causes of erectile dysfunction, a superficial physiological explanation is necessary:
McCabe, M.P. (2005). The role of performance anxiety in the development and maintenance of sexual dysfunction in men and women. International Journal of Stress Management, 12(4), 379-388.
Men and women sexually go through a cycle. This cycle is known as the sexual response cycle. The sexual response cycle is made up of four different phases, the excitement, plateau, orgasm, and resolution phases. The cycle is also categorized in two ways, vasocongestion and myotonia. Vasocongestion is where swelling occurs because blood rushes to certain areas of the body such as earlobes, for women to the opening of the vaginal area, and for men around the testes, it also causes the erection of the penis. Myotonia is what causes hands and feet to spasm, affects the face, and the involuntary movements of orgasm, these occur because the muscles are tightening creating these movements and spasms to occur. (Nevid & Ruthus, 2005).
In today’s society, not able to get or maintain an erection is a real problem with men.
