There are many interpretations of Shakespeare’s Hamlet. As a matter of fact, there’s an incredulous amount of articles regarding this play. His work has led to a source of inspiration for many playwrights and movies. There is no question that Hamlet has made an impact on the theatrical world. Unlike many playwrights, Shakespeare’s method of writing differs because of his mindset and sense of humor. He gave this play life by writing an immersive plot with incredible characters and by incorporating striking symbols.
The plot in Hamlet is well known because of the dramatic moments and striking choices made in order to progress the story. If Hamlet’s father wasn’t murdered by Claudius there wouldn’t be a motive to seek revenge. Without this inciting incident, Hamlet wouldn’t descend into madness and recite one of most memorable soliloquies in theatrical history. “By pairing the play Hamlet with the Disney movie, The Lion King, students discover that both Hamlet and Simba represent the mythical archetype of the exiled child who role is to restore world order and who has an heroic task” (Gavin, 55). Now there is no doubt that both characters have a heroic task ahead of them but it’s if they complete the task that supports the heroic title. The same comparisons between characters were made that I stated above. Gavin’s students break down both stories into several parts and discuss whether or not Hamlet is to be considered a hero. A main point to support that Hamlet is indeed the hero is that he returns to Denmark to fulfill his goal. After an abundance of death Hamlet finally strikes Claudius with the poisoned sword and slays him.
