Through the course of this semester we have been learning about the topic ‘global citizenship’. A broad based topic that had no exact definition tied to it. In and out of class we have been asked to read a number of articles and book passages to help us form a definition of what exactly the term global citizenship means to us.
So exactly what is global citizenship? Global citizenship is not simply defined as one thing; it is a large array of various definitions. The basis of it is global citizenship is being a responsible and active member of the global community. To me a global citizen is a citizen of the world.
Though global citizenship is being a citizen of the world, it takes more than just caring about global issues. Global citizenship is being aware, caring, and acting upon global issues. We cannot consider ourselves global citizens if we don’t take responsible action and try to make a difference. To be a global citizen means understanding what global citizenship is, taking action and making a difference, and being able to communicate responsibly. Global citizenship is more than simply just caring about the world and the people around it. We need to be able to understand that one decision affects people all over the world. Aside from understanding we need to be able to communicate and take action against things. To be a global citizen we need to understand the problem and follow by taking action for change, caring just isn’t enough.
A citizen usually refers to a resident of some place; often your identity is tied with a particular place. Usually, one’s identity is tied to a certain city, state, or country and perhaps even relates to the rights in which they have in this area, to make them a citizen. Global suggests someth...

...enship. Global citizenship is made up of more than one term, more than one action, and more than one definition. Not everyone you ask will have the same answer for the question “what is global citizenship?” but no matter how you define it, it all comes back to the same idea. Global citizenship is the idea that you are part of a global community. You don’t have to travel the world or change the world over night, you just have to care and take a stand. Global citizenship is understanding everything is connected, we are all connected. Global citizenship is more than caring about the world; global citizenship is being a part of the world. To be a global citizen we cannot limit our cares and concerns to just our own nation, we have to make decisions that will benefit the global community as a whole. Global citizenship is citizenship of the world.
...countries as being a threat “to the social compact of good citizenship,” (Dalton 2008, 139).
What is defined as a global citizen? They’re considered to be people or countries who understand their obligations at a global level. Over the past 50 years the countries of the world have become increasingly interconnected. With this, there has been an increasing awareness that only global cooperation can solve problems including poverty and epidemics, stop wars, and reverse environmental degradation and climate change. As the globe battles with these underlying problems, Australia’s partake, even the smallest amount, is fundamentally important, especially with its stance currently as being the 15th richest country in the world. However, in recent years Australia hasn’t demonstrated, in a few of these global issues, the true values and morals of being a good global citizen.
Citizenship is the obligation each member of the NJHS faces to live up to, the democratic ideals given to each and every individual by the founders of their country or beliefs. As good citizens, we are bound to live up to the laws and guidelines of our community and improve not only our lives, but the lives of others. The NJHS strives to help improve the lives of those around us.
According to Keeping and Shapiro, “The term ‘global citizenship’ is increasingly heard, especially in Canada, but rarely defined.”(as citied in Block and Friesen, 2012, page 215) I believe if a person who would like to place their own identity with a global community through actions much more than their identity about values and practices, they will become a part of global citizenship. After learning in ELLA 0360 textbooks, there are three people that stand out. They are Dr. Christopher Opio, Lindsay Willms and David Suzuki.
Citizenship is something that largely defines many of us. Our citizenship comes with a community, a group of people and land to which we belong, as well as a sense of pride. Citizens of a community must coexist and cooperate with one another for the community to thrive and prosper. The idea of individuals within a community forming a mutual trust and respect for one another, is a concept Danielle Allen introduces as “political friendship.” Political friendship extends beyond the immediate reaches of one’s community, but to strangers entering one’s own community, or to those of another community with which you seek to enter. It is not friendship in the sense that a bond is formed or that there is deep rooted affection present, but rather one

What does it mean to be a citizen? What does it mean to be a part of a country? I believe that being a citizen is much more than just living in the same country for a set number of years. There are several ways that the word "citizen" can be defined. For example, individuals may say that when you do good deeds and make your country a better place you are considered a citizen. When you work hard to donate to your country you are showing that you believe in While there are other individuals believe that being a good citizen means portraying kindness, generosity, a helping hand; what some people may refer to as a servants heart. Of course, different countries will have different interpretations of what citizen is and
Globalization is erasing country borders. It’s expanding something to a worldwide scale, and generally making the world a little bit smaller. When you think of globalization in terms of sports, the best example is soccer. Soccer is something that started in 1863 as a simple game played in England by people of humble beginnings and not long after that turned into a worldwide phenomenon (Parrish). Soccer has over 3.5 billion fans worldwide. When you really think about that number you realize how big of a deal that is. That’s about 50% of the world’s population. Meaning that 1 in every 2 people watch, play, and generally enjoy soccer. The globalization aspect of it comes in when you know that its regional popularity is in Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas: basically, almost the entire world.

...l concerns has led to the development of a new type of attitude described as "global citizenship" in contrast to strictly being a citizen of one's nation.
The definition of citizenship has more to do than just a person who live in the country. A citizenship can be obtained by confirming the legal requirements and laws that comes from the nation, state and local authorities. Once the person becomes a citizen in the lawful country, the person will possess the rights and privilege for being a citizen, in addition to that they will also have the means to serve their responsibilities within the country, and in return the person can get the benefits from being a citizen. The person will get the rights to express themselves, freedom to worship, receive a fair trial by the jury, rights for employment, the right to vote, the right to pursue the office and the right to pursue liberty/happiness. I believe

We cannot stop the phenomenon of globalization due to strong interdependence of our lives on those things which are a product of globalization. It has complicated the process of education but has also created many opportunities for countries to break out of the traditional models of education. The idea of global citizen is seen as a person who can act locally but think globally, is a goal that keeps an eye on maintaining cultural diversity while exposing a country’s citizen to the benefits of globalization. Cultural diversity can be strengthened through globalization by providing means and resources to support cultural groups attempting to make a difference in society while maintaining their distinctive set of values and
