A career in Music Management can be very rewarding but having a job in the music business will have it challenges, because the music business is one of the most challenging carriers to break into and even harder to maintain once the job is acquired.
There are generally six types of music managers that can play a role in the careers of recording artists, record producers, songwriters, and musicians. These include Music Manager, Professional Musician, Business Manager, Road Manager, Tour Manager, Production Manager, and Technical Manager.
Getting into the Business can be either easy or challenging it all depends on life situations. Unlike many other professions that follow a linear path to entry, beginning a career within the music industry can happen in a variety of ways. Some major music executives entered the field directly from high school, while others have advanced degrees in business and/or law. There is no hard and fast rule, “which path you choose will depend largely on what you’re exposed to, what your interests are, and the level of motivation you have. Of all the things in that list, motivation may be the single greatest factor that will determine if you end up in the music industry (or any industry for that matter). The path of least resistance is often the wrong path in this business. If you think you really want to be in the business, begin your journey now. The earlier in life you begin – generally while in high school or college -- the better off you’ll be". From the DJ’s role in ‘breaking tracks’ on commercial radio and dance floors, to supplying sounds for film scores and various recordings, to being the focus of the recent gaming trends over the years like DJ Hero. The impact of the DJ in popular culture is significant. There a few things that one needs to consider before choosing to pursue a career in audio engineering. A recording engineer often has to work long, irregular hours. An engineer must also be able to work well under extreme pressure. It also helps if the engineer has a good musical ear, as well as an appreciation of music. Naturally, it helps to be fairly adept technically and electronically. If you feel like this is you, and you can handle working for a long time without reward (hopefully not too long), then a career in audio engineering could be for you.
All these responsibilities require ability in music, some experience , combined with a thorough knowledge of music and music theory. It also requires music and sound production in a recording studio along with a key sense of listening. Some music producers work for record labels producing for recording artists under a contract which has very exact wantings for that artist. And while many are full-time employees, others are self-employed. Which means they must also have experience in running a business.

Music Business Music Business Exam Number One Question 1 - What is The music publishing industry at a glance would seem to be those who print sheet music, method books, lead sheets, and all of the texts or notated music that musicians (and those aspiring to be musicians) use. Years ago, this was what most music publishers did, but as the industry has evolved, the process has become much more complex. Music is not just ink and paper, intellectual material and property to the individual who writes it. Therefore, the song does not become "a song" when it is written down. This is not an easy concept to grasp because the song itself has no physical makeup.
Imagine a career that music fanatics everywhere would love to have. Imagine sitting in a sound room all day, talking calls from listeners and playing the music of one’s choice. It is thought by many that musical talent stands less in relation to the general level of intellectual development than does creative capacity in other arts (Pratt, 1925). Persson (2000) states “It is too often the case that the traditional conservatory culture does not favor creative performances." (5). Prodigies can both be an example of gene’s causing musical talent but environmental as well. And musical preference affecting a person’s musical talent seems to be a little more farfetched of an
1) What inspired you to want to work in the music industry? I have been involved with music for a long time as a DJ then pirate radio operator, once I gave up pirate radio I got into music production as this seemed a natural progression from being a DJ. It got to a stage where I wanted to take my music more seriously so applied to go back into full time education to do a degree as I was working as an IT account manager, I wanted to take me music more seriously and get some kind of formal qualification to try and help me forge a new career. There are many different job roles in the music industry and I felt by doing a FDA degree and now my doing a BA Honours at Westminster University this would help me in my quest. I have transferable skills from sales and account management and felt I had a lot to offer working in an environment I love.
