Every human being has the right to live a fulfilling and satisfying life. Unfortunately, however, there is an overwhelming amount of people who have been deprived this right. Devastatingly, countless children suffer from various unfavorable conditions including abuse and neglect. I covet the ability to give these children the voice and opportunity they so desperately need to be removed from such adverse situations and live an enjoyable and gratifying life.
There are many reasons why I have decided to pursue a career in social welfare. I am deeply driven to improve the well-being of people and ensuring their comfort and satisfaction within the communities they belong. She worked very closely with social workers and was responsible for convincing the court that a child should be removed from an unfit home. To this day, I carry with me the horror stories that she would share about the sordid conditions a myriad of children were found in. I was dumbfounded that there were parents out there that would treat their own children like that. I knew that I wanted to be the person that was accountable for removing these children from their dangerous situations. Additionally, she would often complain that several of the social workers that she worked with were incompetent, lazy, and simply didn’t care. The smaller class sizes and applied training will provide an exceptional environment for my studies. The overall concept of recovery, resiliency, and capacity-building is thrilling to me to be able to work into my philosophy as a social welfare student and later as a professional. As the program is very selective, the students who are admitted are qualified and enthusiastic about the subject. Therefore, I will be surrounded with peers who will challenge me and push me to excel academically. After viewing the coursework offered by your program, I am already enthralled with the subjects that I could potentially be delving into. In particular, I am most looking forward to Social Welfare Policy and Services, Mental Health: A Recovery Approach, and Advance Social Work Practice with Families. These classes sound captivating and are specific to my interests in social welfare. The opportunity to work with professors such as Amber Holbrook is absolutely incredible to me. I find Dr. Holbrook’s interest in advocacy for victims and mental health absolutely fascinating and valuable. Her research inspires me to learn more about how to effectively encourage and strengthen them to reach wellness. I would be delighted to get the chance to work with
