Introduction
Soldiers falling, bullets flying, tensions rising, the Persian Gulf War was a significant war in terms of modern American history. The Cold War was a time of unease throughout the nation, from the end of World War Two in 1945 to the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991. After the Vietnam War ended poorly in the early 1970s, the United States remained out of war for another 20 years. When Iraq was threatening to invade Saudi Arabia in late 1990, the United States knew it had to intervene. After roughly two decades without war, America did not know how it’s military ranked up on an international level, especially against an Iraqi military that was the second largest in the world (Smith 2013). Soon after the stockpiling of coalition forces in the Middle East, the invasion of Iraq began. Weakening targets first with naval strikes, the ground forces invaded the Iraqi forces and liberated Kuwait. As soon as it started, the war ended in favor of the coalition forces. Due to the excellent preparations prior to the war, the United States led a swift battle against Iraq, which led to a successful outcome and restored faith in American citizens.
Causes of the War
During the 1970s and 1980s the United States and their allies supplied Saddam Hussein’s dictatorship of Iraq with a massive arsenal of weapons such as missiles and tanks, and the supplies needed to create chemical and nuclear weapons. The entire goal of stocking the Iraqi military was to end Muslim extremism in Iran, which controlled the country at the time. The Iraqi military was brutal in its attacks against Iran using highly inhumane chemical weapons, and the war with Iran ended after 8 long years. Hussein was also known to attack the Kurdish people of Turkey with che...

The victory helped install once again that the United States is a world power when it comes to military forces. Due to the rough causes of the war, the duration of the battle was quick and led to a successful aftermath for United States soldiers. Through blood, sweat, and tears, the soldiers clawed their way through the severe conditions of the Persian Gulf War. The United States proved once again that freedom does not come free and the soldiers will do anything to protect their freedom.
(Stroilov)Now the Desert Storm was a go. American troops were now forced to get Saddam and his troops out of Kuwait’s Borders. (Stroilov)When this happened over 500,000 American troops were inside Kuwait’s border at the time. Also Iraq had about the same number of troops as the US did. (Stroilov)Although the first 37 days of the Desert storm was done by air bombings. (Stroilov)This meant that none of the American ground troops were in action for the first 37 days of the Storm.(Stroilov)
Over the next several weeks America launched over 2500 missiles on Iraq military. After this Iraq got tired of just sitting there so they finally started to fight back. They launched missiles at the barracks that were blocking Iraq from entering Saudi Arabia. Before February 24 the real ground war hadn’t even started. They fought on the ground for weeks, even though we were still bombing Iraq when we started fighting we still did it and moved into Kuwait. Desert Shield was another codenamed attack on Iraq this was another phase in getting Iraq out of Kuwait and not allowing them into Saudi Arabia. What we first did was get a much greater number of troops into Saudi
... Iraqi forces surrendered after the bombings on their military forces by the United States military. Rob Hernandez explained that he was proud to serve in the military and never got tired of serving for his country. The Persian Gulf War and Desert Storm were one of many conflicts that America has won and has promoted peace throughout the world. At the end of this war, there was still divergence between Saddam Hussein’s forces and the United States, which will lead into the future Iraqi war. George H.W Bush’s efforts and command of the military during the Gulf War helped create peace in Kuwait and areas around it. At the end of the interview Rob Hernandez gave information about how life was in the military where a person would have to move from Europe to America and possibly back, and then life working on the different air bases located around the different nations.
The United States launched an operation known as Operation Desert Shield, also known as the Persian Gulf War, in August of 1990 in response to Saddam Hussein’s order to the Iraqi forces to take over Kuwait. President George Herbert Walker Bush made the decision to send American troops to Saudi Arabia to form an international coalition that would eventually turn into an operation known as Operation Desert Storm. As you can see, America had many difficult challenges, but yet despite it all, they still won the war. Furthermore, Britain had the upper hand at everything. Britain had better armies, more weapons and ammunitions and they had people living in America that still supported them. Moreover, the odds of America winning the war was extremely slim, but yet they still won. No one expected America to win, certainly not the British, who treated the whole thing as a joke, but America had a lot of spirit and spunk and Britain soon recognized that. America overcame their challenges and rose to the

On March 18, 2003, Coalition forces would launch the initial attacks on Saddam Hussein’s Iraq. A full invasion of the country followed, and Hussein was overthrown from power. While the end of Hussein’s oppressive reign was considered a victory for many of the Iraqi people, the Sunnis of the Ba’ath Party refused to accept his demise. Although the Sunnis were in the minority, the city of Fallujah would remain home to many of the Ba’ath Party supporters. On March 31, 2004, almost a year to date from the end of Hussein’s reign, four American Blackwater contactors working in Fallujah were attacked, brutally beaten, burned and dismembered by a group of Iraqi insurgents. Two of the bodies were hung from a bridge for all of the citizens of Fallujah to see, and a mob style celebration took place in the city. The highly publicized incident would be the igniter for the First Battle of Fallujah, known as Operation Vigilant Resolve. On May 1, 2004, the battle would end with the withdrawal of U.S. troops from the city and control being turned over to the newly formed Fallujah Brigade. The mission as a whole was a failure, and the shortcomings of Operation Vigilant Resolve were ultimately a demonstration of the underestimation of the power, size, efficiency, organization and control that the Insurgent Forces had in Iraq as well as the lack of a consistent strategic plan from the American forces.
The Iraq war, also known as the second Gulf War, is a five-year, ongoing military campaign which started on March 20, 2003 with the invasion of Iraq by U.S. troops. One of the most controversial events in the history of the western world, the war has caused an unimaginable number of deaths, and spending of ridiculous amounts of money. The reason for invasion war Iraq’s alleged possession of weapons of mass destruction, which eventually was disproved by weapons inspectors. Many people question George W. Bush’s decision to engage a war in Iraq, but there might be greater reason why the decision was made. The ideas of George W. Bush might have been sculpted by one of the greatest works of all time, "The Prince."
