Bravery or Being Worried
In the stories "A Boy Called Slow" by Joseph Bruchac and "La Bamba" by Gary Soto there are to characters that show similarities and differences. In the story, "A Boy Called Slow" Slow is a young boy trying to earn a new name. He is trying to earn a new name because his name Slow when he gets older he thinks he deserves a better name. In the story, "La Bamba" Manuel is a young boy who is trying to impress his friends and the girls at the talent show. Manuel wants to do this because he is looking for being popular. Slow and Manuel are similar characters that share common traits of being anxious and determination. However they are different from each other in that Slow is Brave and Manuel is being worried.

Slow represents him self being anxious because when he was wishing a brave action to come to him or a great vision.
" Slow longed to have a name like his uncle's name Four Horns or like the strong and his father had earned - Returns Again to Strike the Enemy." Slow thought. This supports he is anxious because he is wishing bravery to come to him and when that came to him he wants a strong, confident, and brave name. Manuel represents him being anxious because when he raised his hand in class to volunteer in the talent show and he did this because he wanted to impress his friends, the girls, and the audience. "He wanted applause as loud as a thunderstorm, and hear his friends say, "Man that was bad!" And he wanted to impress the girls, especially Petra Lopez, the second prettiest girl in his class." This supports Manuel is anxious because he wanted to be impressive to his friends and girls and have them think good of
him. Slow represents determination when he struck the first Crow warrior to get a brave that is not Slow or does not mean Slow. His father said " My son is brave. His determination has won the battle for us. I give him a new name. I give him the name that was mine. He is no longer Slon-he.he is now Tatan'ka Iyota'ke." This shows he is determined because he was showing he wanted to have a new name and also his determination has been noticed by his father and the Warriors and the other people in the tribe.Manuel represents determination when during the talent show when the recorder broke he was determined to keep singing because he wanted to impress everyone in the audience. "Way to go. You were really funny." Parents and students said to him. This supports he is determined because in the talent show he was determined to do well and that paid off and got recognized by everybody in the audience. Slow and Manuel both show anxiousness and determination, on the other hand Slow represents Bravery and while Manuel represents being worried. The way Slow shows us bravery in the story is when he was charging at the Crow warrior and Slpw was taking them risk of being shot with an arrow or becoming hurt by a spear. Also that his bravery of attacking the Crow warriors first won the battle for them. Unlike Manuel he represents being worried. Manuel shows us him being worried before and during the talent show because he was worrying about messing up during the talent show and he doesn't want to mess up because he doesn't want to be embarrassed and have everyone laughing at him at school. Slow and Manuel both show and demonstrate anxiousness and determination, however Slow demonstrates Bravery during the war and Manuel demonstrates being worried during the talent show and before the talent show. Even though these characters are from different stories and different worlds, yet Slow and Manuel can have the same characteristic traits and of coarse Slow and Manuel will have different character traits.
Here are the flashbacks and foreshadowing. One of the similarities is they both had to do with animals and their parents telling them something. The other is that they have flashbacks of animals. Those are the similarities with flashbacks and foreshadowing.
Both works of literature go into depth on appearance, and how your cultural background does not determine what kind of person you are. This can be displayed in "Mericans," when Michelle is assumed to be a Mexican girl who only spoke Spanish and followed all Mexican traditions until she proved them wrong. This can be displayed in Okita's poem when Denise assumed that Okita was the enemy because of her Japanese heritage. A difference between the stories in that one is free verse poetry, and one is a short story. The common theme in both is that appearance does not determine what kind of person you
Olaudah Equiano and Cinque are similar because they were both slaves that were set free. They both went through the same struggles and hardships in the slave life. Both went through the same struggles and hardships in the slave life. Both men went from being slaves to becoming important icons in history the theme of both stories is similar for they both discuss the horrible conditions of slave life. These slaves were considered low class humans that didn’t affect the world in anyway at all. In some respects Joadson is similar to Olaudah Equiano because he worked for his freedom and he ended up becoming westernized. They both...
In both books they share some traits, even though they may not look anything alike they are. both of these novels are dystopian novels and many characters share similarity’s.
Therefore, the characters have similar and distinct traits. Lina and Elie, Ona and Mrs. Schächter, and Elena and Shlomo are the most analogous, although they have certain differences. Lina and Elie are alike by being benevolent and defending their families. On the same note, Ona and Mrs. Schächter are alike by how they react to the harsh events of the Holocaust. Lastly, Elena and Shlomo are alike by being strong in a time of crisis. These novels share many features, but also are dissimilar in several
Compare two characters – one from each work – who are similar in temperament or who seem to be in analogous situations.
Some similarities are obviously that they are both slaves who are trying to escape their misery. The characters also have a good relationship with their fathers because they taught them how to care for themselves and what to do when they need
have a different story behind them but share similarities, such as them being authors, the
The similarities are prolific in their presence in certain parts of the novel, the very context of both stories shows similarities, both are dealing with an oppressed factor that is set free by an outsider who teaches and challenges the system in which the oppressed are caught.
The informal language and intimacy of the poem are two techniques the poet uses to convey his message to his audience. He speaks openly and simply, as if he is talking to a close friend. The language is full of slang, two-word sentences, and rambling thoughts; all of which are aspects of conversations between two people who know each other well. The fact that none of the lines ryhme adds to the idea of an ordinary conversation, because most people do not speak in verse. The tone of the poem is rambling and gives the impression that the speaker is thinking and jumping from one thought to the next very quickly. His outside actions of touching the wall and looking at all the names are causing him to react internally. He is remembering the past and is attempting to suppress the emotions that are rising within him.
In the first line, the alliteration of the letter w in the words weak and weary adds to the tired drained feeling the narrator is experiencing. The sound w flows through your lips with little effort, almost as easily as a vowel would. The second line repeats the phonetic k sound in quaint and curious which helps make the items he is reading seem peculiar. The hard aspiration draws attention to the words letting us know what the narrator is reading should not to be overlooked. In the third line, the n-n-n in nodded, nearly napping sound feels ominous. The repetition of the n sound feels drawn out and tired but with a little force. Not quite as hard as a d, it feels like someone trying to stay awake.
I believe these two stories can be compared because they are both dealing with young black people trying to figure out why they are being discriminated just because of their skin color. They both feel like they should be just as free or equal as white people and not judged so harshly for being born black. They both are attending school during a rough time for colored people. They both just want to make a difference and make people realize that they are not bad people and that they are just as smart as white people. I would say that they both were very unlucky to be born colored during this time period because of the hatred but at the same time they are the ones who could have the biggest impact on changing lives and making it better for colored
Comparatively, both of these characters go through a significant rite of passage in their life, something that will affect them forever. Additionally, the main character has to do something or go through a ritual to complete their rite of passage. In addition, Martin had to put the sacred sage in the medicine bag to complete his rite of passage, Dachina went through a coming of age ritual to complete her rite of passage. Although, the stories have many similarities they do have some differences. After all, Martin had negative feelings about receiving the medicine bag and Dachina was really excited about completing her ritual. In contrast, Dachina coming of age ritual lasted days, while Martin just had to receive the bag to complete his rite of
I have chosen to review the film Boyhood written by Richard Linklater that took twelve years to film. In the movie Boyhood, it illustrates the life of a boy named Mason Jr. through the many stages of his childhood to adolescence to becoming an adult. The movie follows Mason Jr.’s life through his years of kindergarten, middle school, high school, and to college. Through these milestones in his life encounters society with socialization, culture and norms that are exhibited through his family, friends, and others. With factors of social classes, and gender that influence Mason Jr. as he grows and fits into the society that is formed. From the events and milestones in Boyhood, it is able to show human behaviour in society from our
The biggest similarity between the two stories is the notion of moral decline; the beings start off as peaceful things that don’t need homes, food or anything. As time goes on they need those things and more. After a while they start stealing from each other and eventually hurt each other.
