This book opens with Bansir and his companion Kobbi. They are in need of money and decide to go to the richest man in Babylon, known as Arkad, to find out his secrets on becoming rich. He begins to tell them how when he was younger he was a very hard working scribe, who made a deal with a very rich man. He said he would tell him the secret of wealth if he gave him the a law etched into clay. Arkad immediately agreed and left to work on the carving, and when he returned the next day, the wealthy man told Arkad that he needed to save on tenth if all his earnings for himself. If he invested that 10% he would become rich. Arkad saved for a whole year, then gave his savings to a brick maker to buy jewels to trade with, the rich man thought this was foolish. Fourth, educate yourself before diving into investments. And finally, you will lose your money if your too gullible to the tricksters. Nomasir used these five laws to become rich. He leaned that you cannot stay rich if you are not wise. A man named Rodan was a spear maker, he received 50 gold pieces from the king as a reward for making such good spears. When she heard about the news, his sister wanted him to give the money to her husband, who was trying to become a merchant. He didn't want to because he knew that if his desire was to help his friend, then his actions would affect himself.
