1984 Essay Reflection
4. In what ways have you gotten better at this kind of work?
I think my writing and attitude towards writing has improved a lot. Earlier in the year, it was difficult for me to gather my thoughts about a topic and I would struggle to find a good start.
I would always type something and end up deleting it because I was afraid it wasn’t a good enough sentence. I struggled to find the right words to convey an idea. My attitude towards writing essays also hindered my overall performance early on. I would give up and push the essay to the side if I didn’t like what I wrote or couldn’t find the right words. Since then, I feel like

For example, many people mentioned the Thought Police and Telescreens as a way to promote fear through the people and a way for the government to keep them under their control using fear.
35. As you look at this piece, what's one thing that you would like to try to improve upon?
If there’s one thing I would like to improve on, it would be making my body paragraphs longer by using direct quotations from the book and using it to explain my points. My body paragraphs were of adequate length in my final essay, but I feel like I could’ve made a lot more points to make my writing stronger. I feel like I just hit the minimum in terms of length of body paragraphs. Providing more information would’ve definitely strengthened my writing.
36. What's one goal you would like to set for yourself for next time?
One goal I would like to set for myself next time would be to devote more time to writing the essay. We were given a lot of time to do the essay but I didn’t really start to write until a couple of hours before it was due. I feel like if I devoted more time to writing the essay and formulated my thoughts more, my essay would be much stronger and my essay grade would
Where there are weaknesses there are also strengths and mine lie within the body paragraphs. I arrange my ideas well by using quotes about my subject and explaining them.
As mentioned in the first paragraph, I believe that I have improved my writing skills based on interpretation of writer’s pieces.
Throughout this semester we have had to write many types of essays. Although this is a college English class there is still room for improvement. I made much improvement during the semester of the class. I was able to identify my weaknesses. I learned how to make improvements to the areas I was having problems in. Although each essay we did was different I was able to begin with one essay and throughout the semester turn it into two other essays. I was able to change my style of writing to fit the type of audience I was working with. I will continue to work on my writing and keep improving it.
...t I have improved this area over the course of the semester. I am at the milestone in my writing, however, with hard work and determination I will improve as a writer throughout my college years.
Over the course of Intro to College Writing I have written a total of three essays and turned in. These three essays consist of: Narrative, Profile, and Argumentative. My first essay was the Narrative in which I wrote about the night of my mothers arrest. With this essay. I as a writer was trying to convey the emotions I felt during the experience and describe the many atmospheres that occurred throughout the incident. The only memorable thing from this essay was figuring out how to end the essay in a way that wrapped the entire essay back up in a short meaningful, stylistic way. That I felt I did well with my last line being “That was the first time I had said “I love you” in well, I couldn't tell you.” Through writing that last statement I felt I summed up a struggling relationship I held with my mother sparring details that spanned over years into a simple sentence that echoed around the core concept. This was the only breakthrough I met as I wrote this essay recalling the night and describing my feelings flowed easily and I found myself done quickly. I only stopped to find a fancier word or write a sentence in a different way. Either making it longer, shorter or include more details. I had strong feelings that I communicated the entire situation in a comprehensible and touching way. Looking back on the essay there was much too be corrected as I did in my re-write such as: Organization, fragments, Contractions, comma splices.
I stared at the blinking cursor, unbelieving at what I had just done. I was indeed done; done with a paper I agonized over for 6 hours. The paper was due in a scant 4 hours and I had all week to do it. The radio had stopped working because my brother got on the Internet and thus cut off my connection. That was the least of my problems working on this paper. I got it done, though. My life changed with one trip of a teacher to the chalkboard and one phrase, narrative essay. God, I hate narrative essays.
Writing an essay often seems to be an overwhelming task for many individuals. For students like myself, who came from another country, writing can be more difficult and challenging. It can be very frustrating to fully comprehend an idea, and being unable to express it proficiently in English can be excruciating. For these reasons, assistance is often needed to become an effective writer. The focus of this paper is to demonstrate the process on how I organized and accomplished my most recent essay, and to identify the struggles I encountered when writing the paper. In addition, plans on how to improve my next paper, based on the teacher’s feedback from my previous essay, and topics including methods on how instructors can help develop my essay
I had to go back into the Language Arts book to develop more ideas and analyze why different parts of his letter were rhetorically effective. I had to change this because it clearly wasn’t five pages. Past length of the essay, I had to look deeper into how his viewpoints and strategies were linked between the clergymen and all people. I had to change this because my rhetorical analysis was more of a rhetorical summary. Another thing I changed between drafts was the organization of the paragraphs I had.
When I started writing my entrance essay, I never thought that three weeks later I would begin writing my first
I was feeling pretty confident being that I passed the previous one. The class had to choose between a illustration or compare and contrast essay. An illustration essay is when you show or demonstrate something clearly with support and points through the use of evidence. When a compare and contrast essay is showing how two subjects are similar and how the two are different. Although a compare and contrast essay seemed easy to me, I felt that i could write a strong illustration essay on graffiti. I myself am a graffiti artist, and i know the world within it. My objective was to write about it so that the reader could see it from my view. As i turned in the essay, i had a sense that this essay would come out better than the first. I thought i had clear evidence supporting my thesis. But all the confidence i had took a turn for the worse. As the second essay was returned, all i could see was that big red three in the very front. I was shocked, I literally thought it wasn 't mine as first. I really couldn 't believe that it was my paper. Looking at that grade, I knew I needed to go back and read about illustration in the book. I thought I had a clear view of what a illustration was, but i clearly wrong. Being that Bill, let us revise our draft I had to really understand illustration if I was going to pass this second time. No joke, I was up till 2 am reading in the book on illustration. Once I really knew what it was, i could see that
To successfully piece together a last-minute essay, a topic must be selected and agreed upon before sitting down to write. This ensures that the writer can stay mentally focused and be able to concentrate solely on writing the essay. Once the to...
Over the course of the semester, I feel that I have grown as a writer in many ways. When I came into the class, there were skills I had that I already excelled at. During my time in class, I have come to improve on those skills even more. Before I took this class, I didn’t even realise what I was good at. This is the first class where I felt I received feedback on my writing that helped me to actually review my work to see what areas I lacked in and where I succeeded.
I selected paragraph writing for this writing selection because I would like to reflect on my areas of weakness and how I improved as a writer. To be honest, I prefer writing a paragraph because it’s short compared to writing an essay. However, I struggle to write a paragraph. When given a topic and asked to write a paragraph long, I have a lot to say but couldn’t summarize the whole topic. That is, I get too wordy when it comes to details, which in fact, I find it hard to get straight to the point. Indeed, I’m a very detailed person, but this writing piece challenged me how to improve my summarization. As a writer, writing is always been a challenge no what matter what type of writing piece it could be. I started writing when I was very young
Although we did have a little bit of time in class to research, I had more time at my house. Every time I went to start writing my essay, I would always get distracted; whether it be a book, a television show, youtube, food, or even of my pets. I had started writing my rough draft, but I was gladly interrupted by dinner, for I was extremely hungry. When I returned, I walked into a blizzard of my rough draft. It was shredded all over the top of my bed, the bottom of my bed, the floor, my desk, my nightstand, in my shoes, and my closet. I became violently upset. Thankfully, though, I did not act on my
So now that I was confident in what I am going to write, I had to make sure that though I could write about it for a quarter, that there was
