don not until after the seller accept the offer that social worker signed. How will the social worker deal with this ethics dilemma? Social worker Delores Lanier and her husband have been searching for a condo apartment for months? After a while, they found a beautiful condo in the area that they prefer, and they did not know who the owner was until Mrs. Lanier recognized her current client’s name in the documents that they signed. Now, it’s a little late because they gave to earnest money that is part of the downpayment to the real estate agent to start with the initial process to buy a house. Also, they did many plans how to decorate and how soon they will move there? In addition, Delores husband does not agree to cancel the contract because the location of the condom is favorable for both because is close to their jobs, and the is located in one of the most prestigious areas of the city. Delores no has many options, because she needs to face this problem alone. Now, It ethical to the social worker continue with the process to buy a house, when she knows that the property belongs to her clients, and probably she needs to deal with this situation until her clients finished her relation with her. So, she has to take into consideration many factors, her clients know where the social worker going to live and clients will have short contact with Delores family. Is this situation is appropriate and safe for Delores? Could the social worker open dual roles and this role will affect the relationship between clients and a social worker? Dolores today she’s insecure to continue with the process, and she doesn't happy with this situation. REVIEW OF THE NASW Code of Ethics The social worker Delores and her husband found a property that fit with their expectation, is close to their jobs, and this condom is in perfect conditions and is the price that they can afford. Delores husband his very happy and he has been talking with their relatives about some small updates that he plan to do as soon they can get the keys. Delores explains to her husband but he doesn't understand that she is involved in a dual conflict. This property could cause a risk or potential harm to their lives, and dual relationship or multiples relationships are unavoidable, and social work should take steps to protect clients and herself, and are responsible for setting clear, appropriate boundaries. Also, Delores informs to her husband that if they buy this property could cause loose of privacy and confidentiality with her current client and she could violate the rules of NASW Code of Ethics. If we revised this mentioned code we can find several issues for example; Section 1: Social Worker Ethical Responsibilities Explain in the point 1.06 the importance of Conflict of Interest.
Delores should be alert to and avoid conflicts and interest that can cause interference with her exercise of professional discretion and impartial judgment. Because she will never know how her current client may conclude the relationship with her because Delores is protecting clients confidentiality and she can not explain to her husband what type of problem her client's try to solve with her service. Also, ethical responsibilities alert Delores to not engage in dual or multiples relationship with the clients or former clients, and she’s preventing conflict of interest among the individual receiving services or who anticipate having to perform in potentially conflicting roles . In this special case, if Delores buys this property could cause that the clients knock the door without authorization, or trying to establish a social relationship with Delores family, and create a conflict of interest, also will be harmful, and sense of belonging, connectedness. In consequence, reduce therapy effectiveness and could create unappropriated and sensitive boundaries. Section 2: Social Worker’s Ethical Responsibilities to Colleagues. It implies respect to others colleagues, but if Delores shares with her colleagues that the house property that they found its belong to one of her clients, probably not all of them will agree with her ‘decision to buy this condom because they colleagues understand the complication …show more content…
that could be occurred in her relationship with her clients. Sometimes the clients feel confused and will disappear sense of privacy between social worker and client. Section 3: Social Worker’s Ethical Responsibilities in their practice Settings. Delores is responsible for setting clear, and appropriate and culturally sensitive boundaries, but acquiring this property she’s arent’ respect the limits. Moreover, she will need to transfer her client to another agency, if does not convince to her husband to cancel the offer for the property. Also, could imply new problems for Delores because she’s going to loose her client income. In addition, Delores needs to work carefully consider minimize possible conflict with her client and may think in transfer her client to another agency or refer to colleagues to continue with the therapy and service. Section 4: Social Workers’ Ethical Responsibilities as Professionals The social worker is compromised with her client’s and should not allow that her personal personal problems psychosocial distress, legal problems, substance abuse, or mental health difficulties interfere with her professional judgment and performance that why if she has to consider accept this property can not continue with her clients relationship because could cause a several distraction and possibles conflicts in her practice. She is compromised to not accept any other type of relationship that can interfere with her ability to provide a professional and competence practice. Section 5: Social Workers’ Ethical Responsibilities to the Social Work Professional If we evaluate this section explain that the integrity is respect to the values and knowledge and adhere to the highest legal ethical standards of the NASW Code of Ethics. So, Delores will act unethically if she accepts to buy this condom, or she decides to continue with her current client owner of the property. She has to choose to canceled this contract or transfer her client to another colleague, for continue accordance to the establish rules that guide to all social workers. Section 6: Social Workers’ Ethical Responsibilities to the Broad Another responsibility that Delores has to promote is the well-being in her community and with individuals improving social conditions with the purpose of obtaining basic human and social justice, that is an essential action that all social worker need to cover. That’s why is important that Delores evaluates and develop a critical thinking about her decision and take consideration to prevent problems to her client's vulnerability and possibles conflicts. Delores has to act responsible manner in the base of the values, and ethical principles following the NASW Code of Ethics reference. Model and Application 1.-During the time that I has been studied this course, I decided to choose the Ethical Principles Screen Model (EPS), to explain this case.I consider that the information in EPS model provides to social work students an easy and understandable guide to face ethical dilemmas.
Each principle offers a source of information and examples that help students to comphren and learns rules, strategies and with clear examples help to developt a positive practice that provide student to understand how to face with some conflicts and dilemmas in social work practices. The Ethical Principles Screen (EPS) consider seven important and basic points that all social worker need to analalyze before to solve any ethical
dilemma. Principle 1 The Protection to life This principle believes that the protection of human life is basic and is a right that all persons deserve. Delores and her husband deserve a quality of life and they found the house that they were looking for a long time. If we revised the (EPS), it’s a right that they have, because the house is going to protect their lives and will be a long investment and another income when they decide to sell their house. In addition, the property adds security, privacy, autonomy and freedom to this marriage. On another hand, Delores is unhappy for the coincidence and she doesn’t know
The NASW code of ethics has six ethical principles. One of the six is Social Justice (National Association of Social Workers, 2008). This principal ensures social change for oppressed individuals. A social workers focus in social change relates to issues of unemployment and discrimination.
Ethics is a branch of philosophy which seeks to address questions about morality; that is, about concepts such as good and bad, right and wrong, justice, and virtue. The NASW Code of Ethics is intended to serve as a guide to the everyday professional conduct of social workers. This Code includes four sections. The first Section, "Preamble," summarizes the social work profession 's mission and core values. The second section, "Purpose of the NASW Code of Ethics," provides an overview of the Code’s main functions and a brief guide for dealing with ethical issues or dilemmas in social work practice. The third section, "Ethical Principles," presents broad ethical principles, based on social work 's core values, which inform social work practice.
The Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) Code of Ethics (2010) proposes three core values of Social Work, respect for persons, social justice and professional integrity (pp.12). These core values establish “ethical responsibilities” for the social worker (AASW, 2010, pp.12), specifically, the value of respect for persons, which sustains the intrinsic worth of all human beings as well as the right to wellbeing and self determination consistent with others in society (AASW, 2010,p.12). This Code of Ethics stipulates the duty of care a social worker must provide, a...

Ethical Issues in Social Work I will provide practical help for new social workers to help them understand and deal with ethical issues and dilemmas which they will face. There are many ethical issues which are important to social work, but I feel that these are all covered by the care value base. The care value base Was devised by the care sector consortium in 1992, this was so that the workers in health and social care had a common set of values and principles which they would all adhere to. It is important because for the first time the social care sector had a clear set of guidelines from which ethical judgements could be made. The care value base is divided into 5 elements - The care value base covers - Equality and Diversity - Rights and responsibilities - Confidentiality - Promoting anti Discrimination - Effective communication Equality and Diversity Carers must value diversity themselves before they can effectively care for the different races, religions and differently abled people they will come across in their caring profession.
The National Association of Social Work's Code of Ethics is not only something that is crucial to someone in the field of Social Work but can also be applied to everyday life. These values in which the Code of Ethics mandates professionals to use are very important in knowing how to help clients in bettering their lives, and in help society as a whole become a better place. Service, social justice, dignity and worth of the person, importance of human relationships, integrity, and competence are all the core values of Ethics and should be learned and practiced by all, not only Social Workers (NASW, 2008).
As a part of the National Association of Social Workers, social workers may face different kinds of ethical dilemmas in their scope of practice. The code of ethics is put in place so that these professionals may be able to act wisely and make the most suitable and appropriate decisions thereby positively benefitting the client likewise themselves. An ethical dilemma is a conflict between two or more ethical principles. These ethical principles aim to provide beneficense, least harm, respect for autonomy, and provide justice. I will discuss three ethical dilemmas affecting human rights in social work.
As the social worker, I would apply social work ethical principles to guide my professional practice by making sure that am knowledgeable of the liability and standard/duty of care issues as stated in the NASW Code of Ethics, be able to articulate and demonstrate social values, ethics, and principles, open to being challenged on the values and beliefs; have the ability to manage conflict regarding ethical issues, being able to reflect understanding of how to integrate ethics into practice, and recognize my personal values in a way that would allow my professional values to guide my practice (NASW, 2015).
Ethics consists of factors such as culture, religion, and these continuously affect a person’s beliefs and ethics. As individuals continue to develop and adapt to different values and ethics. This is through past experiences and the expectations as our life pattern changes. Core values in social work practice are the code of ethics, informing our understanding of the difference and diversity. The social work profession is evaluated by a whole set of guidelines, measures put in place by regulatory bodies, allowing the movement to put in place new governmental laws and guides within this field.

First the two obvious ones that match are Integrity and Social Justice. The ethical principle for Integrity, “Social workers behave in a trustworthy manner.” (National Association of Social Workers, 2015) Then the ethical principle for Social Justice is, “Social workers challenge social injustice.” (National Association of Social Workers, 2015) The societal value of Freedom can also fall under this ethical principle, because sometimes the basic human rights can be threatened, which can threaten the freedom of the clients, or society in general. This would be an instance where a Social Worker would step in and fight against the injustice. Cultural Diversity can fall under the Social Work category of Dignity and Worth of the person. The ethical principle is, “Social Workers respect the inherent dignity and worth of the person.” (National Association of Social Workers, 2015) This also continues into an explanation though, “Social workers treat each person in a caring and respectful fashion, mindful of individual differences and cultural and ethnic diversity.” (National Association of Social Workers, 2015) The culture and diversity of the client is part of what makes them human, which need to be respected and understood when treating
Furthermore, having the ability to expand and apply that knowledge and those skills to professional practice. The following ethical principle applies to social worker competence: “Social workers practice within their areas of competence and develop and enhance their professional expertise” (NASW, 2018). Obtaining a level of competence will be difficult in facing the many problems areas of Precious’s life; however, as a professional social worker it will be important to expand my skills to best serve Precious. My role in Precious’s case is to be ethical, an advocate, and a professional. In doing so, I would need the competence to problem solve, ensure social justice, and to be familiar with the many dimensions of
“Social workers behave in a trustworthy manner. Social workers are to be aware of this profession missions, values ethical principal and ethical standards and practice in a manner consistent with them”. (NASW, 2008, p.6). Social workers are to be sure their practice is embedded in the NASW Code of Ethics.
Prior to having the class of Professional Values and Ethics, I assumed I understood the basic concepts of what defines a professional who has competence of values and ethics. Nevertheless, by being enrolled in this course, I have gained great knowledge of which professional values and ethical principles must be held by a social worker, which I did not know before. Progressively in this class, by learning professional values and ethics, my motivation to succeed as an upcoming social worker has gotten stronger.
There are certain ethics that social workers must follow and is a guidance for professional standard of work. However sometimes people are not aware of their own values, though the more fully conscious someone is about their values, the more people are able to ensure that their actions are consistent with the values. As a social worker it is vital to know the dangers of not taking account of values and the ethical dimension of practice. A social worker should see their client for who they are and not just another object that is unclear by their own emotions hence why self-awareness is a key to
