Kelley gives three main reasons to support this claim; the standard will change, the opportunities for women are growing without the help of beauty, and that it is important to not let yourself get to a vulnerable state. The reasons may seem a little vague but the author gives enough evidence to support them, which gives the reader the opportunity to develop a new meaning of beauty. Specifically the collapse of Pecola Breedlove, due to her belief that she did not hold beauty. In the case study “If Looks Could Kill”, the hiring process is down to three candidates: Jamal, Tanya, and Darrell. The Hiring committee has to decide which candidate to rule out. All of the committee members agree that this is a difficult decision expect for one. One member of the committee speaks up and says that they think Darrell has to be the one ruled out because of his poor looks. The decision to rule out Darrell based on his looks is the main ethical issue. Throughout history, beauty has been seen as a value to humans. Beauty practices start as far back as foot binding and continues up to today with cosmetic surgeries such as liposuction. On every billboard, magazine, and commercial citizens are reminded that they are not as physically attractive as they could be and there is a solutions to their problem. In his analysis of beauty, Kant states that beauty is morality. Despite the fact physical beauty is highly valued in society, it is not the driving factor when it comes to determining morality and making ethical judgments. To support this, I will be introducing Aristotle’s virtue ethics and David Hume’s A Treatise of Human Nature to demonstrate that beauty is independent of virtue and does not influence morality as it is not considered when discussing morality.
Many people feel that you can tell a lot about a person by observing what they wear and what they eat. This is not the case. Choice of clothing and eating habits, in no way, allow you to pass judgment on a person. Judging people based on these factors is extremely shallow. What one wears and eats in no way depicts character, behavior, or even intelligence. One simply cannot know a person by looking at them and observing what they eat. Such a thought is ridiculous.

It is documented that better-looking attorneys earn more than others after five years of practice, which was an effect that grew with experience (Biddle, 172). We cannot overlook the fact that it is always the most popular and most beautiful girl who becomes homecoming-queen or prom-queen. While these are possible positive effects of the "beauty myth," the negative results of female devotion to beauty undercut this value. These effects are that it costs a lot of money, it costs a lot of time, and in the long run, it costs a lot of pain.
Physical appearance affects the personal development of individuals. An attractive physical appearance can attract lot of people. It makes them sociable and individuals are more courteous of them. For examples film stars have elegant looks. (Patzer, 2006).
Our physical appearance counts all the time. It reflects who we are, how we carry ourselves, and how we represent the company we work for. All employers look for someone with a favorable appearance that sets a person to be competent, professional, and confident that will make an impact to their company. Either way we are judged by how we physically appear. Good appearance makes a person stand out among others especially when applying for a job. Besides having all the skills needed for the job, professional appearance helps a person to be noticed and recognized by employers. Physical appearance is also a factor of how a person feels about himself. Good appearance boosts self-confidence. It attracts positive energy which helps a person express oneself and makes others pay more attention to you.
