The concept of loyalty comes in many different forms, and can also be defined in multiple ways by different types of people. On the other hand, loyalty can also be viewed as a virtue that may be hard to define at times. Loyalty is something that every living organism possesses. A dog is loyal to his or her owner because they provide the dog with food, shelter, and love. A child is loyal to their parents for giving them life, a chance of education, and keeping them alive and well. Even though loyalty can be tested at times, those who are there from the beginning will still be there at the end, if their loyalty really stands true. Nowadays loyalty is seen more of a virtue rather than a morality and that loyalty is an interpersonal relationship and not a supraperonal relationship. People are now more willing in today’s society to change who they are loyal to as long as there is a benefit in return for the loyalty, but that’s not how loyalty is supposed to work. The way loyalty works is if that person never will and never want to change side no matter what happens. One does not simply say that they are loyal to one sport team because the sport team is good and then change to another team the next day because the new found team is better than the previous team and then claim that they have always been loyal to that new team. Also, one cannot say they are loyal when they give up on a relationship to be with someone else who has more to offer than the previous person. Loyalty is faithfulness and devotion, whether it’s for a team, a person, or even a country. Patriotism is the loyalty to one’s country. Patriotism is the willingness to fight and protect one’s homeland because it is where one’s friends and family resides in. That is what loyalty is; it is the willingness to give up what one has in order to give the others they are loyal to and love a better
