Research Method
Scope
The main target of this research are two main groups, the spectators and the athletes. These are two important stakeholders being affected by decisions related to nanotechnology’s use in sports. The fans and spectators of sports were reached through an online survey. By posting the survey on multiple websites and forums I was able to reach out to different people in different countries and get a representative opinion about the given issue. The athletes on the other hand were approached through a focus group and one-on-one interviews. The opinion of these two groups is important to address the gap mentioned above since an agreement must be reached to what extent nanotechnology should be allowed or not. Moreover, this research will focus on Egyptian athletes and fans because Egypt is a developing country and one of the aims of this research is to try to see if developing countries will be able to benefit from nanotechnology in sports rather than developed countries.
Methods
The data for the primary research was collected through online surveys with sports fans and one-on-one sessions and focus group with athletes.
Online Survey
This survey was intended for fans of all varieties of sports in different countries. The focus of this survey was the question of whether nanotechnology should be considered technological doping and become banned from sports or not. Data collected from this survey was used to draw conclusions as to whether there is an agreed consensus regarding this issue worldwide amongst sports fans and whether certain countries side in a particular way with the debate and the reasons behind this.

In the article “Pinpointing Cancer Fight,” Liz Szabo states the uses of nanotechnology and how researchers are attempting to use this advancement to fight cancer. She defines that nanotechnology is a type of technology that creates devices on an atomic level; this equipment can allow people such as researchers to use its ability to detect cancerous cells as well as treat them. Szabo remains a neutral tone as she states that while some are against the idea of using nanotechnology since there are many risks, others are optimistic that it may lead to transformational results. The era in sports from the late 90s and into the 2000s has often been nicknamed “The Steroid Age” due to the raging use of anabolic steroids and other PEDs (performance enhancing drugs) by professional athletes. The usage of drugs in sports has never been more prevalent during this time, and many people are making it their goal to put an end to the abuse. Influential athletes such as Lance Armstrong, Alex Rodriguez, and Roger Clemens, who were once held as the highest role models to the American people, now watch as their legacies are tarnished by accusations of drug use. The American population, and lovers of sports everywhere, have followed in astonishment through recent years as many beloved athletes reveal their dark secrets. As organizations such as the USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency) and BALCO (Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative) attempt to halt the use of PEDs, both the drug users and their high-end suppliers work diligently to avoid detection. The use of performance enhancing drugs in recent years has proven to be cancerous to the honesty and competition of modern sports. Although some strides have been made over the past few decades, the use of steroids is in full swing in Major League Baseball, The dangerous side effects of the drugs are often overlooked and many do not realize the message this sends to the youth. The support for halting the usage of PEDs is in need of attention or professional sports will face the loss of all progress made through the past two decades in its war on steroids.
By allowing the use of these forms of enhancement to sports it levels the playing field. In terms of sports, the perception that everyone has the same chance at winning is totally ridiculous. However, in the example of baseball, if the number one pitcher is using enhancements and so is the best batter then the odds are more even then if only one of the stars were using. In the terms of genetics, some people are born with certain genes that create an advantage over others without that gene. Consider the Finish Olympic champion skier Eero Mantyranta, he was born with a gene mutation that allowed his body to produce more red blood cells than normal. The ability to perform well in competition is connected with the ability of the body to deliver oxygen to muscles. As we know, oxygen is carried by red bloods cells. Therefore, the more red blood cells the body has, the more oxygen is delivered to muscles. This in turn, improves an athlete’s performance. Now if other skiers were allowed to improve their red blood cell count by doping that can increase their performance and even out the competition. This does not mean that Mantyranta would not still win, but it helps even the playing

Performance enhancing drugs have made the headlines for several years now and while their effects and testing procedures are still being debated, they are leaving a harmful psychological effect to future generations in sports. The effects of the attitudes on the usage of PEDs are going to affect the next generations’ attitudes toward their sports and their own capabilities. Currently athletes in all sports are testing their ability to use these PEDs to increase their bodily abilities and their sports’ acceptance not only of their new bodies but also their performances that they are exceeding in. Controlling doping in sport has been a growing problem since the issue of doping has risen in the 1960s (3). This is due to the fact that doping activity cannot be tested for because the methods of doping are changing. Cheating in sport is usually deceptive and hidden, this occurs either by the cheating being done in secret or by finding ways to suppress key information (3). Cheating also occurs when someone breaks a rule that gives them an advantage over others (3). The ban on performance enhancing drugs should be lifted because it would decrease the cheating in sport and increase the autonomy of the athlete.
Performance enhancing drugs (PED’s), in sporting activities, is debateable problem in today's certified sporting world, as positive and negative effects are examined in the professional organisations and in the media. In today’s society, athletes resume to drive the limitations of quality in performance and physical fitness. In this essay, I will be discussing the misuse of PED’s, their side effects and some alternatives that can be developed to stop the use of these drugs. Performance Enhancing Drugs will create serious health problems in the future.
This research project was based on my hypotheses and trying to find out whether or not it is true or not. I used successful teams to help with the process. From the resources gathered, it remains clear to me that my hypotheses is true, but I do not have the information to back it up. However, past results state otherwise yet no clear evidence is available with the possible answer. The research approach involved qualitative research and the research technique was desktop research. Data analyze was used to show the impact mental toughness had on various sports.
Scientific Literacy is the ability to grasp scientific concepts for personal decision making. This project will demonstrate an understanding of scientific knowledge achieved through ERAU Bachelor of Science in Aeronautics degree program. Nanotechnology plays by a unique set of rules in some forms that other materials under the same stressors do not. With that being said, traditional laws may not always be applicable to certain areas of nanotechnology. Nanotoxicology will be covered in order to elaborate on the aspect of possible hazards of nanomaterials and nanocomposites as well as the mechanics behind these materials will be explored. Meteorology will play a role in determining the feasibility of some nanomaterials like nanocoating on aircraft. The examination will cover some adverse weather phenomenon effects on nanocoated aircraft. A key component for identifying some potential materials will be the exploration of publications on quantum mechanics to understand how these materials perform on a nano-scale as opposed to their macro or micro counterparts. For example, research sponsored by the Division of Materials Sciences found the molecular dynamics method of calculations may be unstable and unreliable when calculating the structure of some nanotechnology applications. (Noid, 2014).
Turning sports into a way of life instead of a leisure activity has generated fierce competition for athletes to be the best at what they do. Having a "natural ability" no longer is enough. One must work long and hard hours to gain an edge on the competition. However, these days, even good training cannot guarantee a victory. For athletes and coaches the drive to be at the top is so great that they look for shortcuts to their end goal: winning. The one who wins is always the one who is remembered in the end; finishing second is worse than finishing last. When this type of attitude becomes predominant, it is not so surprising that they try any and all methods of cheating the system. In this way, doping has become a common practice for athletes to gain advantage on their competition. Is this a practice that we as the general public should accept, or is there something we can do to change the status quo?
Anti-Doping policy has altered from concerning a small group of governing bodies and countries to a large global affair in the last 40 years. This has encouraged development of series of international agreements, development of series of international agreements, the establishment of new global forums (World Anti-Doping Agency) and the commitment of many millions of dollars of public and government body funding.
Within society today, sports have this extraordinary way of making a positive impact. The wide sector of sport over the years has developed, expanded and is becoming more influential in our lives today than it has been historically. My awareness has developed not only in the practical aspects of sport, but in the way it is analyzed through newspaper and other media outlets.
The National Nanotechnology Initiative (NNI) states that “the NNI is committed to the responsible development of nanotechnology as one of its four main goals, and as an important part of its environmental, health, and safety (EHS) research strategy. This includes sound, scientific assessment of nanotechnology’s benefits and risks, and an understanding of the potential EHS impacts of nanotechnology.” As we hear that the risks of nanotechnology are one of the main focuses relief may set in for most of us, however we must also remember to think of the ethical, legal, and societal flaws in the development of nanotechnology. The NNI informs us that researchers need to be sensitive when they introduce these new ideas to the public. They need to be able to grab the attention from all different groups of people. “How ethical, legal, and social issues are addressed will determine public trust and the future of innovation driven by nanotechnology,” says the NNI. They gathered a group of experts on ethical, legal, and societal issues. This group includes consumers, engineers, ethicists, manufacturers, nongovernmental organizations, regulators, and scientists. The usage of performance-enhancing drugs in sports is commonly known as Doping. Doping is banned worldwide in every sports administration and competitions and doping gives an unfair advantage to those using illegal substances, such as steroids to boost their performance. It also puts at stake the integrity of those athletes who do not use performance-enhancing drugs also known as “clean” athletes. In fact it seems that we’re now entering the era of performance-enhancing drugs within professional sports. Doping rids the true athletes of what they truly deserve and is wrong; because why should those who put in a hundred per cent of their effort, be outshone by individuals who are choosing to use substances to enhance their physical and mental abilities? Doping damages the sports industry as a whole because it has a serious physical and mental effects on the athletes, as well as damaging the idea of sportsmanship and it also breaks the trust of the fans, as they realise their idols are hypocrites.
The future of nanotechnology would seem to be something out a sci-fi movie but it is the new norm. Nanotechnology is the future for science, research, and technology. It is the thought of working with something so small that would make big changes with great success. This paper will discuss how the future of nanotechnology would work in our society. Nanotechnology will be great with endless achievements that will help the future. The thought of these little particles making great achievements for future advancement have an already unknown background from the past that has help the future to succeed in making nanotechnology a reality and not a myth.
