Geographical Inquiry – Cyclones
Question 1
There have been 32 typhoons in the last 50 years within the Philippine’s, however I will only be focusing my report on three main typhoons. These are typhoon Haiyan, 2013, typhoon Angela, 1989 and typhoon Bopha, 2012. Each one of these typhoons destroyed and devastated many people within the Philippines. Tropical cyclones usually account for at least 30 percent of the annual rainfall within the Philippines.

On November 8, 2013 a powerful tropical cyclone known as typhoon Haiyan or typhoon Yolanda devastated portions of Southeast Asia, particularly the Philippines. It was recorded to be one of the most deadly and devastating typhoons ever recorded, killing at least 6,201 people in that country alone. The category 5 winds devastated many. Furthermore, this major Typhoon left the Philippines with many cultural and physical problems. Some major cultural effects this huge typhoon had on the Philippines was that more then 11 million people were affected, including more then 600,000 homeless and 4,044 confirmed deaths within the Philippines. This was along with $230,000,000 (10,063,650,000 peso) in damage. The stock market was then affected majorly with an almost instant drop of 2.2%. There was a wide spread structural damage to human structures, little physical and environmental impact through, still remains unclear as to the full extent of the damage as some areas are still inaccessible. The typhoon caused damage amongst every to almost every business in the affected areas. With the little amount of money that the families had it was hard to rebuild.
