learning is different for every child. People have numerous ways of interpretting information and understanding data. This of course leads to differing ways of teaching. The united States has recently fallen behind in the international education scene. On the Program for International Student Assessment ,an international test to quantify learning, America was ranked 14th in reading, 17th for science, and 25th for mathematics. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/12/07/us-falls-in-world-education-rankings_n_793185.html These findings have very significant consequences on the United States and its students. This lack of educational superiority in an age of an increasingly global economy will spell out an inability to compete economically and increased poverty in America. Something has come to change this tide of incompetant learning or in reality incompetant teaching. This program that seeks to change learning in America is the Common Core State Standards(CCSS). The Common Core State Standards are different from those of the no child left behind act and are said to be better in many ways. According to the national conference of state legislators "the objective of CCSS was to identify and develop a common set of core knowledge and skills mastery in mathematics and English language arts that every American high school graduate would need have mastered in order to enter college or a career ready to succeed." http://www.ncsl.org/research/education/common-core-state-standards.asp The Common Core State Standards for mathematics and english language arts have been released for state adoption, but at the moment there is much controversy on the Common Core State Standards ranging from whether these standards will work or whethe... ... middle of paper ... ... at the cost, this program can be absurdly expensive if implemented poorly. At a time in America where school budgets are barely climbing back up from recession lows now might not be the time that the business as ussual program ought to be implemented. There is room for the idea of implementing the bare bones program and slowly upgrading it to the business as ussual making it a gradual expenditure that follows the economies growth. With this knowledge it seems rather foolish to add more expenditures to state budgets, but how much does America value education and is it a good investment. These funds play a huge role in every student's education, either positive or negative. The three main areas that need to be addressed in the school budget are extracurricular funding, building and equipment maintenance, and last but not least staff funding.
