Wanting to attend Archbishop Mitty High School had never been a question of mine. I aim to go far in life and I am confident that AMHS is the school that will lead me down that path. By shadowing and attending the open house, I noticed that AMHS is like a second home to its members. The positive vibe radiating through its students offers me something to look forward to and another reason to wake up in the morning and go to school. Although I wasn’t a student, I was treated as if I belonged. I enjoyed how I didn’t have to be noteworthy to be accepted. Unlike typical high school movies, I could be myself without worrying about judgmental stares. I am certain many unforgettable memories will be made.

Kasia Elghazawi, born Katarzyna Anna Krupska, was born on November 4, 1975 in Klodzko, Poland. Growing up, she loved to paint and read. A lot of her time was spent reading books and learning new information from them. She describes school as being “very strict,” having to wear uniforms and having very harsh teachers. The teachers demanded a great amount of respect. She had little to no technology growing up, only having a TV with two channels. Kasia had no internet, no computer, and not even a home phone. She says that although having technology now is more convenient, having no technology makes you spend more time with your family and gives you more time to enjoy life.

After dancing over thirteen years at Annabel Timm’s School of Ballet, I was given the opportunity to help teach a hip-hop class for kids in elementary school. Every Wednesday night, I would meet fifteen little girls at the studio and teach them a new dance to perform in front of their parents. After only a few lessons, each girl became such an important part in my life. During class I would answer their questions about technique and different fundamentals of dance, but when class was over I answered questions about their homework and talked them through all of their problems pertaining home and school. I realized I wasn’t just a dance assistant to them, but I was a mentor.

There are a number of reasons why I would love to join the illustrious sisterhood of Delta Sigma Theta. As an African American woman, who has been awarded the opportunity to enroll in higher education, I have always felt obligated to interact and engage myself in the advancement of not only my race, but also my gender. Hoping to bring awareness to the disenfranchisement of African-American women in our society, I believe it is my God-given duty to work selflessly and dubiously to change and foster creative ways to help build the social, political, emotional and spiritual livelihood of minority women. Therefore, by partnering with like-minded, college educated women, who are a part of Delta Sigma Theta; I know that through this sisterhood, I

When teachers and academicians look at students they see ambition, success, and discipline. For five days a week, as a student, I spend six to seven hours, sitting in a desk, striving to get the best education possible. I believe that high school serves a better benefit than detriment, but rather, academic success and personal development. It takes a combination of skills, organizing, prioritization, and concentration to achieve academic success and personal development. To be academically successful one must fulfill in becoming all that they are capable of becoming. Our contemporary generation is disintegrating and losing morals. Although, we have inspirational people who try to edify us to our true and insightful meaning. The keys to academic success and personal development does not happen overnight, but rather, a process that one should learn over the years.
