Alecia Beth Moore was born on September 8, 1979, in the small town of Doylestown, Pennsylvania (“Pink.” Contemporary para. 2). Ever since she was three years old, Alecia wanted to be a rockstar. Also, Moore believed she never belonged in hometown, and all she wanted to do was to leave (“Pink Biography.” para. 2). Alecia said that when she was a child, other children would be intimidated by her because she knew how to fight; however, Lorraine Ali reported, “Pink said, ‘I’ve always portrayed myself as a much tougher girl than I am.’”(Ali para. 5). As a teenager, Moore loved skateboarding and kick-boxing aside from her love of music (“Pink.” Newsmakers para. 8). The parents of Alecia Moore are James and Judy Moore. With her father being a Vietnam War veteran, Moore was taught many survival skills. By ways of example, James Moore taught his daughter how to properly use knifes and guns; Moore was seen as a very tough child (“Pink.” Newsmakers para. 6). Along with survival skills Alecia was taught fighting skills. She said that her father would randomly come around a corner, tackle her, and then tell her to always be ready for anything (Ali para. 5). James and Alecia would routinely sing together while he played the guitar. He was the one who introduced Alecia to the world of music (“Pink.” Contemporary para. 2). As a teen, Linda perry was an idol of Alecia’s, so she was more than happy to work with her. They created a strong bond while publishing this album. People.com recoreded Pink’s thoughts about her second album, “‘Missundaztood gave me a sense of freedom andpurpose’, she tells Billboard. ‘It allowed me to exercise a lot of my demons. She was the first African American Texas state senator. Jordan was also a debater, a public speaker, a lawyer, and a politician. Barbara Jordan was a woman who always wanted things to be better for African Americans and for all United States citizens. “When Barbara Jordan speaks,” said Congressman William L.Clay, “people hear a voice so powerful so, awesome...that it cannot be ignored and will not be silenced.”
The world of young adults is a complicated landscape, with cliques and a desire to fit in. This push for conformity stretches not only through behavior, but more noticeably through the apparel worn by youths. At the beginning of the story, the narrator states that she and her friends are in “trouble,” but they “do not know what [they did], and [they are] sure [they] did not mean to do it” (103). This fear of the unknown continues throughout the entirety of the story, and readers can infer that the crime the girls have committed was simply dressing out of the norm for their age. The narrator also mentions that she is “white-skinned, ebony-haired, red-lipped, and ethereal,” far different than the expectation for her being “suntanned, golden-haired, peach-lipped, and earthbound” like her mother had been (103). As time repeats itself, so too do the fashion trends popular among the masses, and the look that the narrator’s mother portrayed was the same as the look her daughter is expected to adhere to. This is not the case, though, and because of her and her band’s choices in clothes, the narrator feels ostracized by not only her peers but her father as well, who “looks at [them] without moving his mouth or turning his head” as they leave the house (104). This reaction, or lack thereof, indicates that the father disapproves of the choices his daughter has made about how she dresses, but feels as though it is not his place to criticize her. The ending line does an excellent job at summarizing the angst felt by most teens as the narrator and her band feel as though “[they] are right to turn [themselves] in” to the pressures exerted by their peers to comply to what is expected of them (104). Mary Johnson had a dark past. Mary was in an abusive relationship for years with a man she thought loved her. One day, she managed to muster up the strength to leave him and has since been determined to make a better life. Motivated to use the pain she had endured to help others; therefore, Mary became a counselor. She felt that this career decision would give her the opportunity to help others battling with abusive relationships,and gain the strength to leave and build happier futures. Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act allows individuals who face paying discrimination rectification under federal government of laws. It also helps women fight equal paying on discrimination on the paycheck of work. Presidential Obama passed the Lilly Ledbetter Act in 2014. After the Lilly Ledbetter Act passed, personally I feel women help in a workplace because women have the power to stand for their rights, changed the society, and right to have equal pay. I will be advancing an argument on the early representations of Sarah Baartman in comparison to her representation in our modern society, beginning in the course of the early eighteenth century. In my research, I will use Sarah Baartman as a means of showing how medical and scientific discourses work to construct images of sexual and racial differences. After her death in in 1815, her body was given to the comparative anatomist, Georges Cuvier, who dissected and preserved the body as an object of scientific research. The question of how Sarah Baartman was both raw material and a product of scientific racism forms the focus of this research task.
