Ernest Hemmingway; American novelist, short storywriter, and journalist. William Faulkner, American writer and noble prize laureate. Both of these men are symbolic historical figures. What do they have in common? They are the two most respected fiction writers in the 20th century. I can confidentially agree with that statement. After reading some of their short stories throughout this course, I was pleased. Their passion and stride for writing shows on their sleeve. Although they were both looked up upon, they do differ. Each man has his way of writing. This is called ‘writing style’. Whether it is through emotion, narrating, or description, all novelists create differently. As briefly mentioned, the style of writing is an important gesture from the novelist. It can also be described as how the writer chooses to express his or herself through writing. There are may elements to an author’s style, but the most valued are are word choice, voice, ad sentence fluency. Let’s be quick. Word choice; words that help connect with the audience helping them visualize the sentence. Voice; reveals the writers personality. Sentence fluency; is the flow and rhythm of the language. Writing style helps us express whom we are- just like how we dress! For example, everyone has his or her own style. Some like button up tops, some like plain t-shirts. Some people may like sneakers, but some may like dress up shoes. Just like our perspective on style, writing can have it’s own style too. How many times can we say the word style in a paragraph? Anyways, that’s just an example of how we can relate these two in a simpler way. Style does not define right or wrong. Almost every individual is unique in his or her pieces. Ernest Hemmingway and William Faulkner are well known for their literary styles. It sets them apart, and is one of the reasons they are so respected today. Let’s touch more on
