Recommended: How technology impacts learning

Some may believe that giving students the opportunity to use their devices in school is an unnecessary distraction, however many benefits entail for those who use technology in the classroom. Students need to bring devices to school because it will help to keep them focused, it is more advanced for modern times, and it can save money for schools. The first reason why students should be allowed to bring their devices to school is because it can help keep them focused during class. Many times in schools, teachers will do lessons on a SmartBoard. Since students just sit at their desks watching, they may become bored and zone out. If said students were permitted to bring their own devices, they could follow along with the teacher, making them more engaged in the lesson. In addition, using websites and videos instead of just reading from a textbook makes learning more enjoyable and allows students to visualize what they are learning, which will help them remember it in the future. Also, having devices in the classroom is more interactive for students. They are able to use resources on the internet that enhance their learning far more than a textbook could. Some textbooks used in classes were printed far before the time of their use, and because of this, they do not have updated facts, causing students to learn the wrong information. Furthermore, there are more opportunities online nowadays for learning resources, so there are many more uses for technology in the classroom. Several teachers use websites such as Edmodo and teach lessons on SmartBoards, so students need to bring their own devices to be able to follow along and expand their knowledge beyond the
