Lincoln Leadership does not allow students to keep their phones during school hours. Allowing students to keep their phones on them has many benefits towards themselves and others. At lincoln Leadership Academy, the policy for turning in a phones affects each and every student. This policy is only in effect during school hours, no exceptions are made for the students in order to keep their phones. The administrative office believes students should turn in their phones because it is disconnecting them away from the curriculum during class. The problem of students not being able to keep their phones can be solved by giving students responsibility of their phones, having a web filter applied, and teacher monitoring their usage. Letting students take responsibility of their phones can help them manage their time and get things done quicker. Many students are more comfortable using their phones rather than a school computer, and it also makes them more efficient with their research. It is important for students to stay in contact with each other; with their phones available, they can communicate from longer distances and share information with each other. They need to be Physically monitoring the usage of the phones and the kids using them. This will help keep everybody on track and have more students focused on their work. Electronic devices, particularly cellular phones have become a mainstay in our society. Cell phones and other forms of hand-held digital technology have made their way into the classroom and has become a common accessory among high school and middle school students. By the time a student is in middle school, it is likely that they already own a cell phone and carry it with them wherever they go (Lucking, Edwin & Mervyn, 2010). As the technological capabilities of these hand held devices increase and the upsurge of their popularity continues, educators race to establish protocol for their use at school (Charles, 2012). These policies range from very loose guidelines to zero tolerance. As educators seek to meet the needs of their students, it is important to consider the advantages and disadvantages of these technological devices when establishing acceptable use policies that provide access, while eliminating distractions during instruction.
There is more than one side to the debate about the use of cell phones in school. One claim is that cell phones should not be allowed in schools at all. Cell phones are a distraction and and they interfere with education (Lee). Rather than using them only for emergencies, students generally use them for entertainment purposes (Lee). Many have accepted the use of these cell phones young and old and use them regularly. Though not all of them are using them for worthy practices. This is why our principal has banned the use of cell phones at our school. Is this good or bad for our school. In my opinion I think that this is not a good idea if students are using it in classes.
Many teachers ask their students to put their phones away when in the classroom. I see people on their phones in class everyday and even when the teacher asks them to put it away they still dont. I think that putting their phone away should be enforced because it is very disrespectful, distracting, and many people use it to cheat on tests or quizzes.
A teacher at Lowell High School , Miriam Morgenstern is sick and tired of her students being on their phones in class instead of paying attention to her teaching. She states that “The texting , tweeting , and Snapchats during class are an incredible distraction , and it makes it much more difficult to teach , she said. It’s pretty hard to compete with a very funny YouTube video.” This shows that Miriam’s students are having difficulties paying attention and not cooperating because they are on their phones so much. There are many other educators that are having these same issues as well. Not to mention , students could also fall behind in their classes because they are on their phones in class. Students should not be allowed to have phones in school. Phones can be a huge distraction with all the social applications we use today. It can become a cheating device to help a few get a unfair advantage on assignments. Finally, it can have a good use such as being a useful tool in an emergency. While 73% of teens have access to a smartphone, the starting age of having a personal cell phone is getting younger each year. When it comes to teens, however, they take their phones everywhere they go. Here is where the problem starts. There is a certain topic under fire regarding teens bringing their phones to school. Some choose to believe how adolescents do not have the self-control to use their cell phones while attending school. While this may be true, there are many more positives to bringing a cellular device to a classroom. Students should be able to bring their cell phones to class because of the ease of searching a topic, the use of it during emergencies, and how smartphones allow for social learning.

There is no real "problem" with cell-phones in themselves. Students just need to learn, and remember, that there is a time and a place for everything. A cell-phone should generally not be used in class, unless perhaps somebody is standing at the front of the room with a gun, or if there was some other calamity, such as: kids making bomb threats and what not - for these reasons I find it completely reasonable for a child to be permitted to be equipped with a powered "ON" cellular device. I don't know about you, but if I have kids one day who are potentially in danger, I would want to be aware of this at once.

By taking pictures of notes, it makes it easy for students to make sure they have all the notes without the teacher moving too quickly. They will be able to go home and review everything right there on that small little screen, hence increasing their knowledge.
