If we never fail, how do we know when we succeed? We all expect success from our youth, but in modern education it is just handed to them. Joanne Lipman, author of “Why tough teachers get good results” stated, “Kids who understand that failure is a necessary aspect of learning actually perform better.” Everyone loves to succeed, but our own insecurities about failing should not be the reason that our children are not encouraged to try, even if the outcome is a failure. As a nation that prides itself on being the best in the world, why is our education system falling so far behind the rest of the world? Could it be that academic success is not earned, and therefore not appreciated? Life is tough, and kids should be taught that even if they fail, it does not make them a failure, it simply means they need to work harder to earn success. Not every aspect of our education system needs to change, however we do need to reevaluate some key elements.
“Education holds the key to personal and national economic well-being.” As stated by Marc Tucker in, “Making tough choices.” In today’s classroom environment instructors are apprehensive about negative parent involvement.
