High school students should be getting paid for getting good grades because it could encourage students to study more, try harder in school, and stay out of trouble. The majority of students now don’t have the thirst for knowledge that the past generations had. Today many freshmen do not go on to graduate high school, this is because they have a lack of motivation. Going school to school and getting good grades used to ensure you success in life. Now someone who completes high school and even gets a college degree could end up working the same job as someone who doesn't. This can lower a student’s motivation to go to school, but as history has proven, money is a great motivator.

There are several possible reasons for why a student to not try their best in school. The main reason being that having straight A’s does not guarantee you the job you want. Some might say that it is the student's fault for not applying him of herself in the classroom and should want to learn. But blaming the student for this problem is not a solution, however adding a monetary award for success is a solution. Jay Matthews, from the Washington Post, found that test scores at North Stafford High were up fifty-six percent, this jump in superb grades came from a private organization investing money into the school's AP program. Some also say the fact that paying students for getting good grades is immoral, wrong, and is bribery. However, rewarding students with money isn’t bribing them, it’s paying them for a job well done. Others also argue that a student should go to school to learn and should already be motivated to get an education. “While intrinsic motivation is desirable, if it's not there, maybe external rewards can jumpstart "good" performance among students.” (Peterson) While in a perfect world all students would be motivated to come to school, but this perfect world does not exist, still today there are many students who do not feel motivated.
