Success is hard to pin down. It may be getting an A on a test or finding a high paying job or creating your most influential piece of writing or even just being able to be yourself. Success is different to everyone. Success follows no arbitrary rules of definition or singularity, success is just what is important to you and what what makes you happy. Success controls people’s lives. It is the single most driving force in all of history, the will to be successful. Without our preconceived notions of success and what it means to be successful, no one would follow rules, everyone would follow their own. Success for an average person in the United States is simple. You obtain a high paying job then make a large sum of money, thus you are successful. But where does that money get you? People could be persecuted for who they love or who they are based on old scriptures that are, in many ways, not applicable to daily life today. Men can dominate women. Different races could be persecuted based on “divine justice”. People who love the same gender can be culled without a second look from world powers. These injustices can make people shy away from success, that oppression can stifle the fundamental fire in the hearts of these people. To be safe. To be happy. Success could be unobtainable for these people because of prejudices and their power. In the USA, LGBTQ+ people are disowned based on things they cannot change. In the USA, during the late 19th century and the early 20th century, thousands of people with African American descent were lynched, simply based on things they cannot change. In the USA, women are seen fit to receive less pay, are seen as weaker than men, and are objectified into impossible standards. Success, for these people, is much harder to achieve, and success, success should be achievable and important, for
