Using an undifferentiated cell and specializing it to repair tissues, cure terminal diseases and disorders in the body is known as Stem Cell Research. Stem Cell Research has the potential to turn the medical field around in many ways; these cells have the potential to save people who suffer from terminal illnesses. Forms of stem cell research began in the 1950’s. Since then, many forms of Stem Cell research began to emerge. Stem Cell Research isn’t limited to any certain area; people around the world are researching Stem Cells, hoping that they can be used for the greater good of the people. Kaufman speaks about embryonic stem cell research and argues that it is in fact ethical. The embryonic stem cells are from an overflow of embryos donated by men and women, and are made in a fertility clinic. Kaufman states that tremendous progress has been made with embryonic stem cell research, and the future looks just as bright.
Stem cell research does not directly affect me in any way, but I do feel strongly about the subject. America’s medical field will only benefit from stem cell research. The embryonic stem cells come from an overflow at fertility clinics, and if the cells are not used for research, they are thrown away. So why not benefit the world? The students’ behavior changed for the better, the ultimate reaction was positive. On the other hand, Tom Houlihan, former superintendent of schools in North Carolina, states that uniforms are merely a fab. Houlihan states that the uniforms are a distraction, and that schools should focus on better their academics rather than what the children wear.
When I attended high school, I did not have to wear a uniform of any kind. Instead I spent a large amount of time at night trying to decide what I was going to wear the next day. If I would have been required to wear uniforms, the stress of picking out clothes that I felt were “fashionable” would have allowed me to focus more on other important things. That being said, I do believe that high schools should require their students to wear uniforms.
