Why I Want to Become a Surgeon

With so many jobs in the world it’s so hard to choose just one. Do you want to be an athlete or a doctor? You have to decide wisely because once you choose turning back is a difficult task. Being a surgeon is the job I want to have as an adult. Being a surgeon may be hard but in the long run it’s worth it. This career caught my attention as a kid. I would always watch these ER shows and see these crazy tasks that they would have to deal with, and through all that they’d be calm and collective. Seeing a surgeon save someone’s life inspires me to want to do the same thing. If I would have the ability to save someone’s life, it would allow me to see the world in a whole new way. Every year more than 15 million people in the U.S. have surgery. That being said the need for surgeons will never decrease, as there always will be a surgery to perform. A surgeon is always on call everyday of the year, they need to be able to perform under some of the most pressures situations. Five things one must understand when researching a career are: career description historical perspective, salary, training and education and career progression.

Surgeons have a lot on their plate when it comes to their work. Surgeons are doctors who are specialized in certain surgeries and operations. While being a surgeon there are many subspecialties that one surgeon could pursue (Field). Surgeons will diagnose and treat patients depending on their condition. They will perform a variety of surgeries on the every single part of the human body (“Surgeon”). It’s important for a surgeon to know everything about a patient’s medical history so they can perform their job to the best of their ability and also decide whether or not the patient needs surgery. All in all being a surgeon has been a lifelong dream of mine. As a surgeon you must be prepared for anything every single day of every single year. Some may be able to handle that others might not. Surgeons may arguably have the hardest, most stressful job. They have another person’s life in their hands and that person may live or die based on the actions of that surgeon. The work is tuff, the education is rougher but being able to withstand all that, and fighting each and every day to reach my ultimate goal is well worth it. Once I start I won’t turn back, being a surgeon is what I want to do, since I’ve started highs school I have had my eyes set on this job and giving up isn’t a option. After learning all these things I have, I want to be a surgeon. This job saves lives and being able to do that will make my life worth wild.
