Are students given too much homework? In the article, “The American Journey of Family Therapy,” a researcher discovered that some teachers assign more homework than students are legally assigned. This poses a problem because it is unfair to give hardworking students more homework than they should be accountable for. Teachers need to be aware of this. If they are than that is unfair and they should stop!
I think that students are not given the time of day to spend time with their family because of homework. It keeps them from doing stuff with their siblings. In ‘’Down with Homework’’ with Alfie Kohn. Kohn believes that homework is a bother to kids. He believes that kids’ lives’ will be easier and less stressful if they didn’t have homework. Homework puts a lot of stress on a kid and the teachers have to remember that these kids are little and that every family is different. Assignee too much homework could result in kid not doing the homework or giving up on school. I agree with Kohn because I’ve been there and I’m observing the same problem with my sisters. However, parents need to educate themselves about the fact that homework is not going to make their child any smarter. Although the living conditions of children are getting lot better than when we were kids, the children study more time than we did. The pupils have to get up at earlier than 7 o 'clock to make sure they won’t be late for school. Not only have that, these pupils still had to participate in various after school program, and a lot of variety of training during the weekends. The most pressure is homework. This statement describes the intense issue facing the American Education System today. More and more students are spending a lot of out of school time on enormous amounts of homework. The overabundance of homework is putting pressure on the students, along with their parents. Our nation has steadily focused on after school studying to the point of possible exhaustion. In this paper, I will attempt to explain how educators are relying on homework as the major form of education, and how the amounts are too demanding on the students.
When you think about school one of the first things that pops into people’s mind is homework. Basically if you have asked your parents or your grandparents they would say that they remember the homework load. Now we all know that homework can be beneficial but also can be very unhealthy with all of the stress that it causes. Over the years the homework load has increased because of the fact that schools think that they need to try to keep up with other countries in academics. And will doing all of this homework now be all for nothing later? The homework load has increased these past couple of years and it is causing a lot of stress on kids and overall is not helping their academics in the long run.
A problem with elementary students having homework is that their parents end up doing it just to get it over with. According to today.com there was a rule established by the National Education Association that limits the amount of homework any age kid, especially elementary should have to do. This is called “the 10 minute rule.” Kindergarten students should not get homework but first graders gets 10 minutes, second graders gets 20 and so on. This rule has been broken by teachers giving kindergarten students almost as much homework as a third grader should have. Because this rule is so often broken, parents are forced to step in and help their kids so they don’t look back on their life as all I did was homework.
I have had stress over school work and watched many of my friends stress about it. I have even had to console my friends because they get so worked up about the pressures put on them by their parents and teachers that they begin crying. How do adults see this as fair? Students have enough to deal with why are we adding more stress on them. In elementary we have become pressured to pass a bunch of tests even when our brains have not been fully developed yet. Have you ever wanted to just shred up your homework or throw it out the window and have no consequences? Kids are assigned daily homework from the time they start kindergarten at the ripe young age of five. Is it really necessary to do this? Does it even help with better learning or even higher test scores? The amount of homework we do wastes time, money, paper, and trees because it’s practically the exact same thing we did in class that day.
Many people will fly across the country to see family they haven’t seen in quite some time. Family time is important, it brings families closer together and having mandatory homework to complete will interfere. Trying to complete mandatory academic work and enjoying time with distant relatives is difficult. Students will be locked up in their rooms and have trouble finding time to come out to see relatives because they have a five page essay to write. This forces students to choose between spending quality time with relatives or completing homework that they feel is unimportant.

Students are bombarded with hours of homework every night and it interferes with their lives. They are tired of staying up late at night to finish their homework or a paper that is due the next day. They should not have this workload that they have every night because they also have to live their childhood. Life is too short to be staying up until 11:00 because of schoolwork.
