Why Do People Have Too Much Power

Power is the capacity or ability to direct or influence the behavior of others, or the course of events. Somehow it became something that people have fought for, ever since human existent. Naturally, our sense of competition and greed causes us to want more and more of it. The question of whether or not a person should have too much power, became controversial. Some people believe that it’s no big deal, and is completely necessary. The reason for so is implied in a scholastic article which states, ‘ “Can a president be too strong? "Of course not," most people would answer. "It's always better to be strong than weak.” ‘ Most people think like that because they believe that a leader needs to be powerful in order to protect and guide his, or her country. As studies had implied, humans are naturally selfish because it’s a tool that we develop in order to protect ourselves. So think about it, if you connect selfishness with power, what do you think will happen. Well, I can clearly tell you it’s not going to be beautiful. A great and most significant example is the Holocaust. Adolf Hitler was given too much power by the people of Germany. I wouldn’t blame the germans because during the Great Depression they had a really tough time and had lost all their hopes. They’re like drowning people, desperately trying to grasp onto a life saving rope. So at that time, Hitler rises to power since he was the only person that gave an idea of change to them. However, things started going downhill from that point.
