Sometimes in life you make promises. You may keep or break these promises. A promise is a devotion or dedication to someone or to do something and should never be broken. Imagine getting lied to, It wouldn’t be that bad if you believed that there was a possibility that it wouldn’t come through or get carried out but a promise should mean that there is no chance that it won’t come through or it won’t happen. Lincoln Beckham, a seventeen year old who made a promise to his best friend Juniper Parks were close friends since as far back as they could remember. They grew up together and after Juniper’s grandpa, whom she loved very much passed away, didn't know what to do. So Lincoln made her a promise that as long they had each other, they would be okay. But one day …show more content…
Lincoln claimed, “I’d rather be dead than know that Juniper died because I couldn’t keep my promise.” His brother looked at him with amazement. They kept driving and driving to different places until he was about to give up. All the places they went to had told them, “Matching someone with her size is no problem at all, it's just that she has such a rare blood type that it’ll be hard to find that." Lincoln and Juniper were around the same size and that made it easy to believe but he was told that only one in a 100 babies are born with that type. Lincoln starts to feel dizzy after knowing he can't help his best friend. He has searched everywhere and nobody will help him out. The anxiety finally gets to him and he passes out. "We're going to have to get a blood sample from you, okay?" the nurse asks as Lincoln starts to wake up. "Okay, just make it quick please." "You were out a long time bro." Aj says while Lincoln looks very confused, "Are you okay?" "I'm fine, I just want to help juniper out, she needs me. I made a promise and I have to keep it." Lincoln

I whole-heartedly agree that following through with a promise is an important aspect of a person’s character. I also concur that you must think about the consequences, truth number 2, before making a commitment to through a promise. However, we are all human beings and there are times where we are unable to follow through with a promise due to unforeseen events, which is part of life.
During the Abraham Lincoln’s short time as president, he managed not only to save a nation deeply divided and at war with itself, but to solidify the United States of America as a nation dedicated to the progress of civil rights. Years after his death, he was awarded the title of ‘The Great Emancipator.’ In this paper, I will examine many different aspects of Lincoln’s presidency in order to come to a conclusion: whether this title bestowed unto Lincoln was deserved, or not. In order to fully understand Lincoln, it is necessary to understand the motives that drove this man to action. While some of his intentions may not have been for the welfare of slaves, but for the preservation of the Union, the actions still stand. Abraham Lincoln, though motivated by his devotion to his nation, made the first blows against the institution of slavery and rightfully earned his title of ‘The Great Emancipator.’
When Judson Roberts, a former college football star, arrives at Elmer’s town, he is converted by the belief that it takes a strong man to accept Jesus and have eternal glory and life. Later on, Elmer and Frank Shallard, a fellow student at Mizpah Seminary, are called to be preacher and assistant at the church in Schoenheim. There, Elmer has a relationship with Lulu Bains, whom he is expected to marry. Elmer devises a scheme that he executes perfectly to make sure that this marriage does not take place. Elmer goes on with his training in the ministry and is presently assigned another church for the Easter service.
"You're okay!" Archer breathed a sigh of relief, running his hands through his dirty hair. "Akito had me worried, he said–"
During the Civil War, Lincoln said he, "…never had a feeling politically that did not spring from the sentiment embodied in the Declaration of Independence". Lincoln saw the Declaration of Independence, or more appropriate the Declaration of Liberty, as the underlying basis of American government. The value of liberty inadvertently convened on every principle contrived by the delegates that came to Philadelphia that hot day in May. Lincoln made this statement in direct response to southern succession. He was justifying forcibly returning the Southern states back to the union.
“In response he expected us to play the part of an enthusiastic family, but we were unwilling to resume our old roles” (Sedaris 5). In life, unreliable people surround us. These people often break promises, bringing disappointment in one’s life. Sometimes the unreliable person may not realize the disappointment the broken promises bring to others. Like in the quote from “The Ship Shape” by David Sedaris, the father expected the family to be excited about the promises, but instead they were disappointed because they had been let down numerous times. Being continuously disappointed by a person can also lead to future problems such as not trusting the person, which eventually jeopardizes the relationship. This situation was true for both Sedaris and me. In both situations, people to whom we were close to made promises, but never delivered.
Could you imagine having to move between free and slave states? Could you imagine what it's like to lose your mom, sister, aunt, uncle, and sons? This was the life of Abraham Lincoln, a very ambitious man. Lincoln aspired to reach a goal no matter what issue crossed his path. Some reasons how he showed a trait of ambition is because he was told by many that he should give up on trying to abolish slavery, he aimed to be the most wholesome president, encourage children to do well in school, and lastly he wanted to someday make a mark in history and he did, by becoming President of the United States of America. These were a few of the objects that Abe Lincoln wanted to be able to do, all while benefitting the rest of the country.
“I wish he had died after the Unveiling. He would have been buried here so they could be together if he known.”
"Rachel!" Franklin says. He kneels beside her and craddles her in his arms. "Are you okay? Why would you do something like that? I'm so glad your alive."
Gage tries to sit up but falls back down. He turns toward the girl. “Are you okay?” he manages to ask as he struggles to remain conscious. He reaches toward
Watching someone change his or her feelings towards you for someone else can sometimes make you feel as if your heart is never going to stop from aching. How can “promise” be the word that it is when people spend a lot of their time breaking it? You spend hours wondering if that special person still smiles the same way they used to or if they even care the same way they use to feel.
"You okay, Raph?" He muttered lightly as he picked his hands up, wiping away the blood with a cloth.
