Do you know what makes ancient Egypt more interesting than any other ancient civilisation? Ancient egypt was formed in 3100 bc and conquered by Alexander the Great in 332 bc. It was located in northeastern Africa near the Nile River. Ancient Egyptians were fascinating because they were very intelligent people. They are a very fascinating culture because they built the Great Pyramids, they used the Nile River to their advantage, and developed Hieroglyphics. It took over 20 years to build the monument known as the Great Pyramid. In fact, it was mostly built out of limestone, was 480 feet high, and was built by tools that existed 4500 years ago . The limestone blocks weighed over 2 ½ tons. Also, the pyramid is now about 30 feet less today than it was when it was built. Originally the pyramid would have been as tall as a 42- story skyscraper. In addition, the tools they used were very simple. They used ramps, sledges, and manpower to carry the stones up the pyramid. The flooding of the Nile left behind a fertile soil called silt which provided perfect conditions for crops such as barley, cotton, and wheat. In addition, reeds found along the banks of the Nile were used to make paper. The reeds were sliced and pressed to create papyrus which was used in trade and many other daily activities. Also, the Nile provided a faster means of transportation. When going north, the boats simply floated, but to travel south, the sail had to have been raised.
