Have you ever wondered what makes someone a hero? Beowulf is a strong, independent warrior who became who he is by rank. Captain America is a well known by many for his patriotism, bravery, and strength. Beowulf has many similarities and differences compared to a modern day hero such as Captain America.
The values that society cherishes gives protection to the people that live in it. Each society values something different like some value equality, religion, and freedom of speech. The importance of these values is to let people have there own freedom. People also base their decisions off of values.
Beowulf and Captain America have many Similarities. Some of these Similarities would be their bravery, strength, and intelligence. Beowulf shows bravery when he kills both grendel and his mother. He shows no fear when he jumped into the lake full of monsters. Captain America shows bravery when he is sent into war to fight for the people. Beowulf's strength is shown when he rips Grendel's arm off killing the beast. Captain America shows his strength by his shield, his shield can not be damaged. Some differences would be that Beowulf fights for a higher stance meaning he fights to benefit himself whereas Captain America fights to protect his country under his own will. Meaning Beowulf is more selfish than Captain America would be. Another difference would be that Beowulf uses little to no protection and Captain America uses a shield that can not be damaged. This shows that they are both strong but Beowulf is stronger. Lastly Beowulf was born with his strength unlike Captain America who was a lab experiment. This shows that Beowulf's strength is natural unlike Captain America. This states only some of their differences, but there are many
A hero not only needs to be physically outstanding, but he also needs to have integrity, moral values and needs to act without thinking in his own benefit. Beowulf has many characteristics of a hero but he also has some defects that make me think that he wouldn’t be considered a hero in today´s world. A hero concept evolves with a culture, Beowulf has many things that the Anglo-Saxons viewed as heroism but he misses many things that are important for a modern hero.
There are many similarities between Batman- a modern day hero making use of his intellect, modern technology, and detective skills on crime and warfare and the classic hero, Beowulf- who travels great distances to prove his strength against his enemies, even at impossible odds. For example, the simplest being that they are both heroes working towards the common good, saving others without twice thinking of their own safety. However there are also many differences: obvious ones such as the fact they were born centuries apart, and subtle ones like the importance placed on humility with Batman versus self-confidence with Beowulf.
Though both Beowulf and Batman hold many similar qualities as paragons of heroism, they have differences as well. It is in these differences that you can see the depth of character that Batman has, and Beowulf lacks. Batman is a man of ordinary physical accomplishments, who overcomes his enemies through access to technology they do not have and physical conditioning they do not do. His success is attributed to his own skill and insight into the criminal mind. He is called to do his good deeds by the needs of others. He is also driven by a desire for revenge on the criminals who took his parents from him. Beowulf, according to the poem; “Geats used to say that he has in his handgrip the strength of thirty men, a man famous in battle" (32),
So, in conclusion, they are the typical heroes who always accomplish their goals in saving citizens and defeating a foe. They do have some differences, such as their quests, characteristics, names, and other minor details. In the end, Beowulf and Perseus both defeat the dragon, monster or whatever it is they have to defeat and get gold, girl or whatever makes it a happy
A true modern hero is able to set aside fear and act on the matter at hand, which signifies the quality of courage. Being Courageous can set you apart from others, because you are willing to carry out actions that are beneficial for the greater good. Any one can say they are going to do something, but when the claim is backed with actions they truly display courage. Beowulf is the epitome of being courageous. He voluntarily
Superman, Spiderman, and Batman are heroes! They possess the two traits that are needed in western civilization to be considered a hero: wisdom and fortitude. These modern heroes have wisdom and fortitude. Did Beowulf possess these traits? Beowulf shows he is a hero through both his wisdom and fortitude throughout his adventures. Beowulf is a great hero because he possesses both wisdom and fortitude.
Beowulf and Superman have many resemblances and distinctions, but I believe that Superman directly resembles Beowulf. Both men in these stories have superhuman attributes; Superman and Beowulf both have super strength and other astounding characteristics. Beowulf has various features that make him a hero in the epic tale. When Beowulf tears Grendel’s arm off during hand to hand battle, he exhibits his super strength and depicts his capability to breathe underwater while being pulled into the monster’s lair. To kill Grendel’s mother, Beowulf picks up the massive sword in the cave. Superman displays superb strength when he saves all of the people of Metropolis. However, he has one weakness that involves the stone called kryptonite; he can’t fly,
Winston and Beowulf are both heroes in their own ways. What makes them different? What set them apart from each other of being a better hero? Beowulf tells a story of his heroic battles full of violence, horror and distraught to save his people from danger. Beowulf is the best illustration of a hero for modern society. He has primordial heroic deeds risks his life for glory his braveness is what makes him strong and a censurable leader . A hero is someone who has courage, idolized, worshipped and has noble qualities.
One of the characteristics that both heros share is that they are both very loyal maybe one of the most loyal people you will meet in their time. Maximus was one of the most loyal generals of rome and Beowulf was a very loyal soldier for whoever he worked for. Both men had heros instinct in the sense that they would both help whoever was in need of help. They were both men that were raised to be warriors but became more than just another soldier they became heroes. Both men had very similar characteristics even though they were born in two completely eras of
accomplishments, but also through their potential and ability to stay resilient through those difficult times we all experience. The book Beowulf has the protagonists Beowulf who is the depiction of an utterly invincible and ultimate hero, who i believe is similar to Superman from Dc comics who is also close to being an invincible hero but not completely indestructible. Beowulf and Superman are both symbolic heroes in their respective universes. They are very similar in the fact that they care about people and that they also use their superhuman strength to fight evil. They have differences as well and weaknesses too, but it's all part of being a hero. And they are both venerable symbols of their times. The hero Beowulf is extremely similar to the hero Superman, they are both symbols of their respective universes, they have similarities, and they have weaknesses.
There are many similarities between both stories. The main three I will focus on will be, bravery, partnership, and that they both had to fight unrelenting foes. There were also a few differences between the two stories as well, the one I will focus on is the fact that Beowulf got praised/treasures, while Batman did not.
Picture a hero, how he looks, acts, the way he talks. Did you picture any ordinary person with a pair of glasses and a slick nerdy haircut? Though those appearances may seem like an ordinary person they also describe the well known hero, Superman. Just like the appearances of Beowulf are the same as any normal person for the time period he was set in. Now if you begin to look deeper into the characteristics of both of them you find they both are very courageous, loyal, and gracious. Although Superman and Beowulf look ordinary on the outside they have superhuman characteristics and mortal flaws.
Hero. The first thing that one thinks of when they hear the word is most likely a person with the superhuman abilities of being able to fly, read minds, or easily crush anything in their path. While, most heroes do not possess all of these traits, they do exhibit some. In Beowulf by unknown, the main character, Beowulf is a great hero to the Danes when he defeats a strong monster named Grendel with just his bare hands and saves the Danes from more pain and heartache. Another example of a hero is Batman; he defeats Bane who was a strong villain killed and harmed many people throughout Gotham City. Beowulf and Batman have many similarities and differences, like their characteristics mentally and physically, the type of evil that they try to
Many people compare Beowulf to fictional characters such as Superman, Batman, Hulk or even Iron Man simply because they are all made up heroes. These characters were created to be a hero to the world. We expect these heroic figures to save the day each and every day. However, there is one person that many do not compare Beowulf to and that is Martin Luther King, Jr. Both of these men have done outstanding tasks with fighting for their own people, standing up for what is right and they are both currently looked upon for their heroic deeds till this day by their own people. They may have a few comparisons, but they also have some differences. They are not major differences but they fought different battles, and they came from a different background.
