Recommended: Eugène Delacroix Liberty Leading the People painting

For the first work of art that I would save would have to be Eugène Delacroix painting Liberty leading the people. The reason for me choosing this painting out of the many I found is quite simple, I picked due to the fact that if this art would to be destroy how would they know the feelings of those who saw and took part in the revolution and the overtaking of the crown that took place on July 28 1830. So the historical background of this piece is that King Charles x put out these law called the four ordinances which basically was taking all of the people basics right so the people of banded together and started to riot, that rioting lasted from July 27 to July 29 but the reason he painted his art of July 28 is that July the 28 was the most …show more content…

I choose The wedding Feast at Cana for my second art work by Paolo Veronese. So the history behind this piece is this painting is a creation of the biblical story Marriage of Cana which both Jesus and his mother Mary attended, in this story Jesus is at a wedding and everyone is having a good time at the wedding when all of a sudden they run out of wine and the people hosting knew it’s not a party without wine so Jesus at the command of his mother told the servants at the party to go and fill jugs with water and when the brought them back Jesus turned them into wine and the party continued. Now the Reason I want to save it is because it is a religious piece and for the fact that one of my favorite rappers looked at this piece and found inspirations for his album cover. The story behind that was he was at the Museum and he was looking at the Monna Lisa the piece that everyone goes to see and in his mind he said that I’m surrounded by so much beautiful art that I’m not just going to focus on the Monna Lisa but I want to look for something else and as soon as he turned around he looks and see The wedding Feast at Cana. So if this art was destroyed then who knows what would have inspired one of my favorite

    “The Met’s very own Mona Lisa” (Tomkins 9). That is what Duccio di Buoninsegna’s Madonna and Child painting is known as today. “The Metropolitan Museum of Art bought the Madonna and Child for forty-five to fifty million dollars” (Tomkins 1). However, the painting was not always in public hands; in fact, the Met purchased the last known work of Duccio in private hands. Originally, the painting was held in the private hands of Adolphe Stoclet and his wife. When the couple died, their house and their collection went to their son, Jacques who held onto the painting, and passed it down to his daughters who lent it to an exhibition in Siena of Duccio and his school. The painting was eventually withdrawn from the exhibition and sold (Tomkins 2). Madonna and Child painting dated 1300 and was painted by Duccio di Buoninsegna a Sienese painter, who is considered the founder of modern Italian painting. I chose to research this painting because the subject matter of religious imagery and symbols interests me. Also because when I looked at the painting the emotion on the Madonna’s face almost jumped out at me. It is as if, she is looking at her newborn child with this deep sadness, which almost makes you think that the painting is foreshadowing the death of Jesus Christ. In addition, the burns of the side of the frame peaked my interest, as to why they were there. Art critics were also interested in this work they even consider Madonna and Child one of Duccio’s perfect works, and it said to be worth all the other paintings exhibited under the name of Duccio (Christiansen 14). The Madonna and Child painting’s iconography, imagery, emotional appeal to the viewers, and meaning all make this painting still a great work of art today.

The idea of the final judgement is a Christian idea that has been displayed in art repeatedly in a variety of ways. Michelangelo’s fresco the Last Judgment (1536-1541) is a piece that visualizes this idea. Since the time it was finished, this significant piece found in the Sistine Chapel has been continuously critiqued and analyzed. Many Christians struggle to interpret the event of a final judgment after reading it through Scripture. In analyzing Michelangelo’s piece, it is similar difficult to determine what he exactly meant to portray and what the various part of his masterpiece represent exactly. Many have examined this piece and made different regarding what exactly the various figures and objects are supposed to represent. The diverse interpretations of this work further shows the idea that when Christian ideas are reflected through artwork, it is hard to ascertain exactly what an artist intended to demonstrate. In addition, the controversies surrounding this piece represent the idea that when Christian ideas are revealed through art, there is potential for disagreement regarding what should and should not be included in Christian art. Michelangelo’s Last Judgment is just an example of what results when Christianity is brought into art.
