Walking dead came out in 2010 and has became very popular over the years. After waking up in an empty hospital weeks after being in a coma, ZonSheriff Rick finds himself confused and alone. He finds his way out of the hospital and no one is to be found, as he is walking back to his home looking for his family, he runs into a man and his son and they tell Rick what has happened in the last couple of weeks. Zombies or what they call “walkers” are taking over the world. There is a virus going around that when a human dies they will turn into a walker. Rick later finds out his son and wife went to Atlanta and he makes that his mission to find them. The only issue is, how is he going to survive all these walkers? Days after struggling to find his family, he finally makes it to them. His family and new group of people all go on to looking for someone who knows the cure to this nightmare. The zombie outbreak had definitely brought Rick and the other character's a challenge to their faith and survival. Rather than waiting for their doom, the two characters, Rick and Daryl press on with the best of their ability. They chose to challenge whatever lies ahead for them, than to sit and wait hopelessly.
Even though they seem unrealistic, zombies can be created and are realistic due to these several things that can happen in the brain that can cause a person to act like a them. It starts out as finding a safe place from the zombies, but later, as the group is more and more confident in their defense against the zombies, it becomes about protecting themselves from other groups of non-zombies. Paul A. Cantor explains in his story that “this show suggests that its characters must ultimately reply on themselves and their own resources. In various flashbacks, we learn that, prior to the zombie plague, the husband and wives were generally unhappy in their marriages, with soap opera consequences.” (290) The greatest example of survival skills on the Walking Dead, comes from a character named Carol. Watching season 1, you would’ve never imagined Carol being alive in season 7. In the beginning, Carol’s character is a beaten down mousy housewife and mother. Her husband was very emotionally and physically abusive. This vicious cycle of abuse left Carol with little self-worth that left her mentally unprepared for survival skills needed in this zombie apocalypse. Carol quickly realizes that she needs to take matters into her own hands and makes tough decisions that no one in the group will. She eventually becomes so passionate about self-preservation that she starts teaching knife skills to children in their group. A zombie apocalypse is absolutely a possibility. When take a closer look there are many possibilities to which an apocalypse could happen. All though it may not be as Hollywood or video games have led us all to believe. The whole lumbering, brain-dead corpse thing has become a little overrated now-a-days, at least for me anyway. Today when we think about a zombie apocalypse we think of popular video games or movies released by some truly sick and demented people, who by the way probably have way too much time on their hands. There are many possibilities to where a human can be turned into a “zombie”. Disease, disease has been with humans as long as humans have lived in this Earth. When we look all throughout history we can see the evolution of disease. In England during the Middle Ages the Bubonic Plague is a perfect example. It hit the British pretty hard, took them absolutely by surprise. They had never seen anything like that in the past, there was never any way to treat the disease, you just avoided it, and as soon as you were infected, as far as the rest of the world was concerned, you were already dead. Egypt, another good example, there has been recently discovered hieroglyphs revealing a depiction of what appeared to be a horde of zombies. The scribes wrote it describing them as possessed and ferocious. Some people say zombies, while others say the product of an overactive imagination. In this show Rick Grimes, a sheriff's deputy, awakes from his coma and finds himself in a hospital. He soon discovers that while he was in a coma the world had become infected, turning humans into flesh-eating zombies later called Walkers by the characters. As Rick sets out to find his family he encounters many other survivors such as Glenn, Daryl, Carl, Maggie, Carol, Sasha, Hershel, Beth, and Michonne, among many others who have died along the way.
