The purpose behind the annotated bibliography that is being presented to you is to shed light on the various sources I used to gather the information that is presented in my research paper. The main topic that these sources will encompass is the topic of video game violence and its effect on the youth of our nation. There are various viewpoints to have towards the topic of video game violence and its affect on the youth of our nation. The sources that have been chosen to be used in this research are not only chosen to help give an unbiased look into the topic at hand, but also to help give a look into the research that has been conducted dealing with this topic such as internet articles, magazine articles and books. The American Psychological Association has conducted research pertaining to the effect violent video games play on children. In this article the APA discusses how some of their research has made it evident that violent video games may cause some children to be far more aggressive to their peers, but the same games seemed to have a positive affect on other children. The research that was conducted by the APA in this article shows that the violent video games alone have little or no effect on a child, but instead it is a mix of certain personality traits of the given child that make a child more susceptible to the violence that is presented to them when playing video games. The research presented in this article also shows some of the positives that come along with the activity of playing video games. These positive effects range from the usage of video games in a hospital enviro... ... middle of paper ... ...deo games and more than 90 % of the games that children play involve violent content. The most recent study in the topic was performed by Craig Anderson, director of the center for the study of violence at Iowa State University, who concluded after working with 3,034 boys and girls that increases in aggressive and violent tendencies were found in children that played violent video games for extensive amounts of time. The article also talks about a study conducted in 2011 that found that after a week of playing video games the volunteer's brains showed less activity in the regions associated with emotions, attentions, and inhibition of impulses which appeared to be irreversible. The conclusion of the article states that even though violent video games have become a mainstay in many households not all players of violent video games will commit violent crimes.
