One day I was at school, and I noticed most of the class was wearing Under Armour. One girl had an Under Armour headband on, another had a T-shirt. I saw others wearing Under Armour shoes, shorts, sweatshirts, and socks. This got me thinking about how Under Armour got started. Under Armour has a captivating startup and success story. Today they’re widely known across the world for their athletic clothing for all sizes, genders, and ages. Under Armour was invented long ago and is still popular today. Kevin Plank started Under Armour in 1996 when he was only 23 years old. Plank grew up in Maryland and played football in high school and college. Whenever Kevin played football, his undershirt constantly got sweaty. He thought this felt unpleasant and desired a solution. One day while Kevin was playing football, he realized his microfiber football shorts didn’t get sweaty. Once his shirts were made, he had to find ways to sell them. To do this he asked his old school friends that now played professional football if they would try out his shirts. They wore the shirts in a game and promoted Under Armour as they did so. Another way he sold shirts was by driving up and down the streets, selling them from his trunk. Once Under Armour’s name was out, he got his first order in 1996 from the Georgia State football team. Then in 1997, Kevin got an order from the Miami Dolphins. They asked for 150 shirts, but Kevin didn’t think he could make that much. He finally realized that this could expand his company greatly, and decided to make the shirts.
