Flying to Conclusions “I will continue to treat people with kindness even when they try to trample over me… I will be triumphant in the end” (Elle 1). There are some, and honestly, very few, people who are constantly kind and understanding to those who are disrespectful and deceiving throughout almost or even all circumstances. Mockingbirds, metaphorically, can represent such people. For those birds are cheerful; and have a sole purpose of bringing joy. To “trample” on these birds and people alike to them is cruel and destroys the purpose and worth of value. “Cecil Jacobs made me forget, he had announced in the school yard the day before that ‘Scout Finch’s daddy defended niggers’” (Lee 99). When Cecil Jacobs advertises this comment, the readers are finally becoming aware of the case and just how Atticus treats all people fairly but is ridiculed for actually having virtue. Atticus later replies to Scout’s questions with an honest confrontation that he indeed does defend people of color. This aids his children into maturing and gives them perspective. Even people within Atticus’ family see him as a “disgrace an’ that nigger oughta hang from the water tank” (Lee 110), as sayed by Francis, Atticus’ nephew. It is such an ignominy to share the point of view that Atticus has, that nobody is openly okay with what he is standing for. Atticus is neglected even after all the good he has accomplished. Mostly everyone that has observed his lifestyle disagree with him because they are afraid of what it is he is doing. Atticus gets spat in the face by Bob Ewell, Mrs. Dubose disses him in front of his children, and Atticus responds in one way, acting civil. Even though Atticus can be considered a mockingbird, there are other major characters that are different but share that they assimilate the animosity positively that also present them as this pure
