No, I do not believe I am dying soon. I am, however, getting to the point in my life and career that I am really beginning to think about how I want to be remembered, what I have accomplished, and what type a person I am. I have interviewed many people in my life, and what I am always seeking, is what makes them tick, what is their story. I usually go through a series of questions asking the interviewees what three adjectives certain people in their lives would use to describe them. I ask about their family, friends, boss, and even what a colleague that did not see eye to eye with them would say. I then ask what three adjectives they would want on their tombstone. I do this to get an idea of who they are and how they want to be remembered.
I chose to do my interview on my aunt Rosa Emilia Molina. I chose my aunt because she is someone that i always talk to and look up to. I had never really heard of her past or how it was when she grew up. My aunt was born in Choluteca, Honduras on June 8, 1949. Although my aunt is not from Europe or the United States there was still plenty going on in Honduras. She was an ordinary person in extraordinary times because of her education, work, and home.

The participant requested that he only be referred to as Bob within the confines of this paper. I'd like now to sum up Bob's life in the way you would see in a newspaper testimonial. Bob is a forty one year old supervisor in a well-known factory. He has a wife and three children within the confines of his nuclear family. Bob identifies as agnostic, though he was raised in the Christian faith, and does not have a specific political alliance as he feels the government today is dominated by extremes on both sides and finds the system to be broken. He lives in rural Illinois and his socio-economic status is middle class. I've always felt that those type of summaries do not properly capture who a person truly is. I feel that we have to hear a person's story to understand who they are. A turning point in his life would be when he made the decision to get his degree. Not actually getting the degree, just deciding to do so. He realized his past experience meant nothing and he had to make a change to better provide for his family. It seems a point of pride that he achieved this with no one telling him that he had to do it, but it was his own drive that pushed him toward it. A positive experience from his childhood would be when his third grade teacher, Mrs. Thomas, told him he was a very good writer Bob notes that though he has never written a book he still prides himself on his writing abilities citing being able to write an English paper the night before and still receive an 'A'. A negative childhood memory that still haunts Bob is when a girl, in junior high, that he wanted to ask to be his girlfriend rejected him in a public, and humiliating manor. During the interview, I noticed the excitement on Dr. West’s face. It was like a ray of sunshine that caused me to be excited about the interview as well. I asked Dr. West about her career history, some of the things she wanted to overcome in life, and what were some of the goals that she have achieved.
For that, I interviewed my boss, Karen. I see her almost every work day but there were still many things I wanted to ask her about. I knew that she had been married to a man before she met her wife, and that she still had his last name even after separating and remarrying. I also knew that her father was a Methodist minister and performed her marriage ceremony back when he could’ve gotten in a lot of hot water for doing so. I knew that she was adopted, too. But the rest of her life, the in-between moments, were still a mystery to me. So, I really enjoyed that interview. As you can tell from the transcription, we laughed a lot and got along well. I think she felt comfortable and she told me later that she had enjoyed talking with me. I also came more prepared and with more questions. It was hard to do my initial research on my student interviewee because there wasn’t a lot of prior information that I could find about her. With Karen, I not only had my own prior information, but she is also easily found on the internet. A lot of that has to do with her age and the businesses she has been involved
I chose to interview Mrs. Mary, Mrs. Jen, and Ms. Katonda because they all have experience with working in the hospital and that is the setting that I am looking to work in. I have also thought about becoming a college educator for physical therapy students and Mrs. Jen and Mrs. Mary are currently working as nursing lab staff, but they also work with the physical therapy staff throughout the semester.
With the study of history, culture, and tradition of the people you will interview, it will give a first hand with knowledge and experience of those people. As society and life continues to adapt and change to meet new circumstances and other needs, traditional bearers will continuously shape the society and life as a whole. With that in mind, the study and understanding of oral history plays a very important role in the preservation of our cultures and traditions. Death is the one great certainty in life. Some of us will die in ways out of our control, and most of us will be unaware of the moment of death itself. Still, death and dying well can be approached in a healthy way. Understanding that people differ in how they think about death and dying, and respecting those differences, can promote a peaceful death and a healthy manner of dying.
