The Truth Behind Communism Communism is a political theory created by Karl Marx in the 1840’s. The basic principles within it are that all property is publicly owned and that all goods are owned in common by a governing body and are available to all as needed. It doesn't sound so bad, does it? Everyone receives the same amount of everything, so there is total equality. But if you just dig a little bit, you will find that there are actually serious flaws with the practice of communism in a country. Communism as a whole is doomed to fail due to lack of incentives for the people, and the fact that there is no real economy. My first main point is that in communism, there is a lack of incentive for the people. Due to the idea that all citizens are supposed to be perfectly equal to each other, people don’t have the drive to do anything. People who work different amounts earn the same amount, (which isn't much), therefore no one tries to work any harder than the bare minimum. To put it broadly, this led to no innovation in the country, or coming up with new ideas. Why try to come up with better ways to produce energy or manufacture clothes more efficiently if your leader would just provide it for you? In a capitalist system where there is diversity in the market, people will buy what they want to. If a product is not selling, then the company will know that the need to change something about it, or lower the price. In contrast, rising prices show that a product is in high demand. Since the price and quantity of everything is federally regulated in a communist run society, the government won't know if a product is in high demand or not.
