Along with many other inventions made by Thomas Edison, the phonograph revolutionized the world after its invention. It has lead to thousands of other inventions which probably wouldn’t work without its creation.
In 1877 Thomas A. Edison invented a machine called the phonograph, the name coming from two greek words, “phonē” meaning sound and “graphē” meaning write. This machine had the power to record and playback any sound. was caused from the work of the telephone and telegraph, and was originally made as an accessory so the speaker can say something once without have to repeat anything. This led to the first recorded human voice, Edison reciting “Mary had a little lamb”.
Even though the machine set many first it was very fragile. The needles, which the phonograph had two of (one for recording and one for playback), broke very easily and had to be replaced quite often, and the tinfoil could only be used so many times before ripping.
The phonograph was invented in 1877, but Edison did not file for a patent until months after, and with that in 1878 the phonograph finally went into production though the Edison Speaking Phonograph Company. The phonograph wasn’t really a hit for a while since of its difficulty to operate. Usually only experts knew how to work it.
Soon, for its lack of popularity, and Edison lost interest and saw the invention for nothing more than a money maker. But later on Edison gained inspiration in 1886 when Alexander Graham Bell re-invented the Phonograph and called it the Graphophone. As Edison was working on his invention he came up with three new models of the phonograph, New Phonograph, the Improved Phonograph, and the Perfected Phonograph, to try to compete with Bell. ...s, iPods, just for example. The list could go on and on, the phonograph was a people pleaser. It brought people together through music. People really enjoyed listening to music, and that has never changed, and most likely never will. The phonograph just made it easier.
