The Liars Club is a memoir of Mary Karrs life. She relates back to her childhood and speaks about the pain and suffering she endured. We are introduced to her whole family and we learn about the different aspects of each family member.

Growing up Mary Karr didn't have a “stable” childhood. Her parents Pete and Charlie had many obstacles they faced throughout their life. Pete, who worked at a graveyard at the oil refinery was an alcoholic. He would drink every day, whether it was at home or with the liars club, he always had a drink in his hand. Charlie, who dealt with many illnesses such as an anxiety disorder and being a hypochondriac was not the best role model in Mary and Lecia life. At only 2 years old, Charlie almost died of pneumonia. After surviving that, she wasn't a normal kid, she had many issues.

Charlie's mother, Grandma Moore was not a good mother. She was someone who only stuck up for Charlie and would pin Charlie against Mary and Lecia. Grandma Moore was diagnosed with cancer and to stop the cancer from spreading, the doctors …show more content…

. Mary is watching her father and his friends around a table drinking and talking. She listens closely to every word said. She hears her father tell a story about how his father killed himself and goes into the story. Mary, who knows her grandfather is alive is listening with concern and curiosity. Pete describes his dad as an unstable man who died from climbing the roof of a house and falling through, breaking his neck. After the liars club gathering, Pete comes home to food and drug bills that he struggles to pay for. Charlie is admitted to the psychiatric ward and Pete is left to take care of the girls. The girls are better conceited with their father and find it easier to talk to him and be around him.
