Egypt is one of the major known ancient civilizations of the world. It was located around Northern Africa. The Egyptians were known as being an advanced society. They were smart and created advances in many ways. Our world would probably not be the way it is now without the Egyptians. The Egyptians were advanced politically in many ways. They didn’t have a leader like a president, though. Egypt had Pharaohs as their rulers. The Pharaohs thought of themselves as gods in human form. Some well known pharaohs in ancient Egypt were Ramses III, Thutmose III, and Hatshepsut. Hatshepsut was the first female pharaoh to rule Egypt. Like most early and ancient civilizations, Egypt traded with neighboring cities and places like Nubia. They also farmed across the civilization for food resources. Egypt invaded neighboring cities and conquered them. Egypt was a religious ancient civilization. They were polytheistic, so they believed in many gods, including their pharaohs who said they were gods. Like most ancient civilizations that were polytheistic, they believed there was an afterlife, so they prepared for this by trying to bring their belongings with them to this second life. Another way they prepared for the afterlife was mummification, which was when they prepared the dead bodies for the afterlife by wrapping them. Egypt had lots of achievements because of their advancements. One of their most famous achievements ever, still known worldwide today, is the pyramids. They also built the famous sphinx. Egypt also created a way of written language called Hieroglyphics. This way of language is a series of pictures used to describe many different things. Hieroglyphics were lost and not deciphered until the Rosetta Stone was used. The Rosetta Stone was a big help because it helped to decipher the lost language.
