With the upcoming 2018 elections right around the corner, social media will become increasingly more popular for the use of promoting specific individuals participating in the election. However, using social media for publicity can be both beneficial and detrimental to the individual participants. Typically, social media is used to bring publicity to the individuals participating in the election, but it is also used to shed negativity against the other opponent. More and more fake news is being generated during election times as tensions rise and feelings get hurt. As of today, there are many promising demos that could speak for the misinformation and demand more from these various social media networks. This would have been extremely beneficial during the 2016 presidential election. Polarizing political news and information through social media was spread regarding the many aspects of the 2016 election right before the voting took place. This could have been the cause for the various states that Trump won in with less than a two percent marginal win. If perhaps I see something on social media that seems fluke, I can then look up the facts. Once receiving the facts, I can then reach out to the producer of this misinformation. Though it may not do anything about the actual false information, I will be able to use my voice in something that is so important and necessary for United States citizens. After reaching out to the company that produced the false information, the issue still is not resolved, I can then go about getting the facts out. This could simply be by posting my own post with the source so that individuals can read it, or I can even go about engaging in a conversation on the post where the misinformation is
