At the beginning of the year, I was scared of Comp. Some friends, who had already taken the class, told me how hard it is going to be. They told me that there is a heavy workload and homework almost every night. Comp is a college class, so I knew it was going to take a great deal of effort to get a favorable grade. Coming in, I didn’t have very much experience writing essays on a college level. In previous years, I tried to take the easiest English class I could. I hated writing and tried to do the bare minimum to get by. I thought I wasn’t skilled enough at writing, and no one would want to read what I write. Taking Comp has helped me develop as a writer. There is a massive difference between my first essay and my last. Over the semester, my strengths have gotten stronger, my weaknesses have improved, and I have set goals for Comp 210. One of my goals for Comp 210 is to get an “A” in the class. I did not achieve this goal in Comp 110, but now I know what it takes to achieve it. It takes hard work, time, and effort. I put forth minimal effort in Comp 110, and my grade showed it. I played games during class when I had a ton of assignments to do. I didn’t try very hard on the assignments, and didn’t turn all of them in on time. I procrastinated on my essays, and didn’t take the to time to revise them. That is why I received such a low grade on my compare and contrast essay. Comp 210 will be different. In Comp 210, I want to get decent grades on all of the essays, turn all of the homework in on time, and finish with an “A” in the class. In that case, I have to use my class time wisely, not procrastinate, and do everything to the best of my ability. I know it will take a large amount of work, but it will be worth it in the
