In the past three months I feel like I have accomplished a great deal. As the semester comes to an end I find myself reflecting not only how I have survived the first semester but also what I have learned. The most important thing I have learned so far is how to become a better writer. I did not think it could really happen to me. I did not think I could handle all the work. I did not think I could actually become a better writer. Some how after all the hours of writing, and putting effort into the papers that I wrote this semester, I became a better writer. I did this because I concentrated on two very important areas, with the attitude of, if I could just become better in those then I would become a better writer. With help from an awesome teacher and a reliable tutor I have become a better writer by improving my skills in the areas of procrastination and content. Procrastination has become such a bad habit for me. It is very hard to stop procrastinating everything once you have gotten into the habit of doing it. Once I had a term paper due for my religion class. It was to be ten pages long and we were told to spend a lot of time doing it. Being the procrastinator that I am, I waited to the very last minute to do it. I waited until the night before to do most of it. Needless to say, I was up very late that night. In this class there was always a part of the paper due on a certain date before the final paper was due. Having things due before the final paper is due keeps me on task and keeps me from procrastinating until the day before the paper is due. There was one paper which we had to get sources for a while before the paper was due and it forced me to keep up with the paper, rather than let it go to the last minute. This class has taught me that the earlier you start the more positive your final result will be.
Driver error is an additional cause of crashes. Driver error can be numerous things, including distraction, fatigue and falling asleep at the wheel, inexperience, reckless driving, eating while driving, and others.
I am a procrastinator and I have been ever since I was a child, which I am sure many others have been as well. As a child, I would put off my work mainly because I did not want to do and wanted to occupy myself with something else, rather than to sit there and actually do the work. When this happened, of course, the work would either be done in the morning, at night, or it would not be done at all. In his article, “The 5 Most Common Reasons We Procrastinate,” written for Psychology Today, Shahram Heshmat (2016), “The lack of imposed direction that’s become common in the workplace might contribute to the increase in procrastination” (para. 4). This is something that was more prevalent in my freshmen year of high
Out of the three attempts to squash my tendency to procrastinate, only one seemed to work. The first thing I tried that worked, was to set a timer for 10 minutes, and just work for those 10 minutes. Next, I would give myself a 10 minute break. This was an idea suggested by my professor at the beginning of the year. This worked at first; I would get into my writing mojo, and not stop for an hour or so.
My development as a writer has flourished throughout this semester. The first week of this fall semester started out with writing responses from our readings in the textbook. Looking back through and analyzing my reading responses at the semester to now; I noticed a substantial improvement in not only my grammar skills, but also my summarizing, and in-depth studying of writing adeptness. Another way I have progressed this semester is the vocabulary of my writing has significantly improved and become more scholarly. Another advancement I noticed was that the content of my work has matured, along with my organizational adeptness.
This kind of procrastination kind eats away months or years of time, and can even ruin lives. It is pervasive, and a source of major stress. And it resists most attempts to overcome it.
Over the course of the semester, my writing developed from elementary level into an undergraduate college student’s. I was able to overcome many weaknesses and learn the proper ways on effectively writing a paper. The given writing assignments became the symbol for my “practice makes perfect (in my case improvement).
“Scientists say that no one really discovered Venus since it is visible to the naked eye”, due to it being the second brightest object in the sky (Discovery). So there isn’t an actual date for its discovery. In 1610 Galileo was the first to observe Venus, but ancient people were most likely aware that it was there because it is the first “star” you see before sunset and the last “star” you see before sunrise (Galileo). It is one of the most widely explored planets other than Earth. Venus was named after the Roman Goddess of love and beauty, Aphrodite. It is the only planet named after a female (Choi). Scientists believe that Venus formed the same way and around the same time as Earth and might have looked like Earth but since it is so close to the sun the water would have evaporated (Oxlade, 15).
In the course of this semester of writing, I grew more than I ever had in my ability to write well. I remember on the first day of class several other students were talking about how hard this writing professor is. I was a bit worried and even thought about switching to an easy professor for a guarantee A so I can get a 4.0. Now, I am grateful that I chose to decide to work hard for a 4.0 instead. Even though I may not get it, I am still glad I stayed because for once, I learned and became a better writer. I can see that my knowledge of conventions definitely improved from last semester. I really loved the feedback for my assignments, since it allows me to realize what I need to improve on and what I should keep doing. Unlike the previous semester, the writing professor only told us our grade on the very first assignment after two months. There were no feedback on how I could improve either, so I had no idea if I was having trouble with anything. Prior to this course, I always had trouble writing sentences and organizing them in such a way that flows and delivers my idea well. I also rarely outline or plan out how I will write a paper too, and even when I did, it was very vague. Out of the five learning outcomes, I grew the most in rhetoric knowledge and writing process from the reading responses and 4 assignment.
The best way to procrastinate is to interact with other people. That way you can lay part of the blame on someone else: "Well, Mom was talking to me about something important. I couldn't just walk away." I prefer to talk on the phone to friends who go to schools far away. We usually don't talk too often, so when we do, we have to make it count. For those that who don't want to spend a mountain of money on phone bills, any kind of messaging system on the Internet is a great way to communicate.
American psychotherapist, author and lecture Wayne Dyer once said, “Procrastination is one of the most common and deadliest of diseases and its toll on success and happiness is heavy.” When one procrastinates, they put things off to be done last minute, which then leads to stress, unhappiness and failure. As a college student Procrastination hinders my academic caree6r. Students procrastinate because they get distracted, overwhelmed by the task or just lazy, however students can overcome procrastination by developing a schedule, carefully planning academic task and improving time management. My personal experinces, O'Reilly, Sally’s article, and Edwin C. Bliss’s book will validate my panaceas to procrastination.
Procrastination develops like a credit card that satisfies with happiness until the bill is sent that has to be paid. The factors I believe that contributes to the tendency of procrastination are the characteristics of the assignment, fear, rebelliousness, lack of focus, and excuses. The things I can do to get rid of the factors that cause procrastination are by confessing to what I am guilty of. Next, I acquire and identify information that triggers procrastination and develop a plan for what I want to achieve. Then, I have to gain leverage and develop an action plan. Lastly, I must take purposeful action to be efficient and successful in my academic career.
Procrastination has become a problem for some adults so there are several articles and studies showing ways to get rid of procrastinating habits. Jinny Ditzler, a writer for the Huffington Post, wrote about the ever-ending question “if one breaks their procrastination habits will it change their life for the better?” As stated before, a person might procrastinate because of their fear of “life-changing priorities [which] can be scary because they’re so big” (Ditzler 2015). Procrastination doesn’t happen because we want it too, it happens because our mind is trying to save us from experiencing a stressful task for as long as
You may have a planner with all of your assignments to do but you have to have motivation to do them. Having motivation is the next step to avoid procrastination. In most cases people claim that they procrastinate because they have no motivation to do any of the work. You can motivate yourself by setting the due date a week or even a day earlier than the actual due date. I know that when I get an assignment done before the actual due date or even five minutes before its due I feel like i 'm on top of the world. Having a little motivation will get you a long ways when it comes to avoiding
Procrastination is hard for me, mainly because I have a bad habit of waiting to do an assignment closer
Procrastination is not just a problem, it's a problem. I have been a chronic procrastinator ever since my days in kindergarten, when I pushed off even the simplest of homework. Unfortunately, my homework has long evolved past the basic two plus two problems, and has moved on to derivatives and Thevenin's Theorem. Even though the difficulty has substantially increased, my motivation (or lack thereof) to complete an assignment has stayed constant. According to Amy Novotney, author of “Procrastination or 'Intentional Delay',” “80 percent to 95 percent of collegiate students procrastinate, particularly when it comes to doing their coursework”
