In the film The Host, it portrays what a society without problems or feelings would be like. For example, the people do not lie, steal, or kill. Although, along with this, people can no longer grow any sort of feelings. Everything that makes humanity is stolen. To movie’s social commentary is it takes away everything that represents humanity the good and the bad.
The Host is a thriller/action film. The film is about Earth that has been taken over by Souls which is an alien race that can take over a human body and wipe the memory . Growing up as a Latina in a small conservative town was not always an easy thing. I often faced presumptions that I would not graduate high school or amount to much in life because of my background. I knew that I would have to work twice as hard to accomplish my goals and prove to myself and my peers that the stereotypes made of Latinos and our success were nothing more than thoughts by people ignorant to our abilities and strengths. I was always determined to achieve my goals, even when others doubted or implied that I couldn’t.
If I was to make a movie based off the book My Paddle to the Sea, I would change various scenes from Lane’s perspective on his journey. I would make the scenes more interesting by including more action scenes, descriptive details along the river, and less historical events. Do not get me wrong, Lane’s history lessons are quite intriguing to older viewers, but young adults will most likely skip over pages unless there are various action scenes. If I were to direct the movie, it would not be similar to Lane’s book or the journal like aspect and would include pictures from the past that go along with some of Lane’s history lessons.

The movie Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy is based in the 1970s. It depicts the highly male dominated broadcast team and shows the shake up when a woman is hired as a reporter and has aspirations of becoming an anchor the television station. The particular scene shows Ron Burgundy is flustered because Veronica Coringstone is impeding on his masculinity. Burgundy exemplifies hegemonic masculinity by explaining he is a man and a professional, when Coringstone says he his acting like a baby he takes offense and explains he is a man and he his ultimately better than a women because indeed he is a man. Burgundy states, “'I’m a man who discovered the wheel, and built the Eiffel Tower out of metal and brawn. That's what kind of man I am. You're just a woman with a small brain. With a brain a 1/3 the size of us...It's science (Robertson, McKay, 2004). The clip also depicts Burgundy’s desire for Coringstone to be the typical submissive female he is used to. The articles will identify the gender stereotypes and access if they are true or false based on the research.
In the book “The Host”, the “host” is the human body that an alien “parasite” is inserted into. Although the human host is very much resistant and reluctant to giving themselves up for this procedure. Once captured by these aliens, Melanie Stryder becomes a human host for the alien parasite Wanderer, the main character, and at first are mortal enemies. After insertion, Wanderer begins to realize that Melanie is a strong host that has fought back from Wanderer more than any host Wanderer has ever lived inside. When trying to seek information from Melanie’s memories, Melanie starts to overpower, rule, and overwhelm her with stressful emotions. Eventually, Wanderer falls in love with Melanie’s loved ones that she sees in her memories and goes out of her way to provide help and security for them and the other humans. In the end, Wanderer is defined by her human host body and is forever defined by her host body after being inserted out of Melanie’s body into her own host body.
The Interrupters is a 2011 film directed by Steve James that speaks volume on inner city violence. This film accurately portrays urban life and issues that arise from it. With brilliant cinematography, this film describes social problems, social norms, and inner city culture and demonstrates it through a strategically written and shot film. The Interrupters was informative, eye opening, touching, and relevant to today’s time. This is true because there is perhaps an even larger violence epidemic in the United States than when the film came out.

Emporia State Universities Production of this masterpiece was a masterpiece in itself, from the stunningly genuine portrayal of the characters of Avery and Rose, to the realism found within the set, every aspect of the production was superb.
The Associate is an entertaining movie that brings forth gender disparities in the workplace. Whoopi Goldberg, Laurel Ayers, portrays a financial analyst who has been stuck in a position that does not give her true credit for all of her hard work and talents. The Associate exemplifies the sexism that is occurring in the workplace through satiric wit and a strong story line.

Ten guests are invited by a mysterious man, to stay on the isolated Soldier Island. As soon as the chosen guests arrive, they introduce themselves and explain why they were invited. Ironically, all of the guests were invited to the island for different reasons, and realize they have been deceived into coming to an island. On the first night, the guests gather for dinner. During, this time a recorded voice plays accusing all the guests of past crimes and murders. After the record plays, they began to discuss the abrupt circumstances and at that moment the first victim is poisoned by potassium cyanide. Terrified by the troubling events, the frantic guests go to their rooms where the guests become filled with guilt about their past. The following morning the guests discover that the butler’s wife mysteriously died in her sleep. As some of the guests examine the butler’s wife, another victim was murdered by the shore. After hearing news of a third guest being murdered, the guests began to make outlandish assumptions on who is the m...
