I believe that people can choose not to belong to a certain community due to the fact that they may not agree to other people values and beliefs. Through the text we follow her living in war times and experience her realisation to the true nature of the German people. Throughout life many people face difficulties. Depending on the person’s strength some will get through tough times, but some will fail to overcome them. Two books where characters have to face many challenges include: Their Eyes Were Watching God and The Book Thief. These two stories deal with people overcoming the difficulties faced throughout everyday life. Some difficulties include racism, religious discrimination, and dealing with others’ cruelness or kindness. Examples from these books prove that the characters have challenges throughout the stories to overcome. In the face of adversity what causes some individuals to fail while others prevail?
When I heard the clicks of heels in the hallway, I sat up attentively on the waiting couch. A pleasant looking woman came to greet me. She was in her mid fifties and introduced herself as Celeste Drury. She worked with the children home society, an adoption agency that is located in Oakland. I found Celeste through a family friend. The family friend knew my interest in learning about adoption and the criteria used for adoption processes. I was excited to meet Celeste and to learn about what she did. Settling in my chair, Celeste slightly cheered me. Celeste orphanage was licensed under the adoption agencies act. It has been in existence for many years. Children home society is in charge of providing adoption services in the entire state of California. I asked Celeste of its role and she said that it “helps parents to make informed decisions about their children, and also give tips on the adoptive parents” (Drury).

At the same time, however, there are elements of beauty such as peace and love. Many events in the book display this contrast, such as Death’s exhaustion of the human race and their complexities, or when Hans slaps Liesel to protect her. From the outside he was a hitler youth but in the inside his idol was Jesse Owens, a black athlete, Rudy looks past all of the nazi ideals and sees no difference between himself and Jesse Owens. Through this, people perceived Rudy as a crazy kid for having those alien beliefs. In the beginning, Rudy doesn't really know what was happening around him. To show off at the Hitler youth carnival, Rudy won multiple races. To his own ignorance he drawed attention of the Nazi officials and was recruited to a special school.
As time evolves, so do the words that are essential for our everyday survival. The most obvious difference between humans and animals is our ability to master the art of speech. Often, people will say the “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me”, a simple nursery rhyme that helps ease a bullied child from abusive words and taunts. But does that really help cure the emotional pain? Words can illuminate and motivate the minds of people but can also shadow their self-esteem through psychological trauma. But, we also watch a few people go out of their way and sacrifice everything for a man they barely even know. They do everything they can to keep him safe and alive.
