Virtualization is a broad topic. It can turn one computer into multiples. The cost savings are better appreciated managing multiple machines versus managing single clients accessing virtual desktops. How virtualization works, what it can be used for, the types of virtualization, and the benefits of virtualization are some of the concepts presented.
How Virtualization Works
Virtualization is often misunderstood. It is the conception, design and manufacture of a virtual version of something such as an operating system, a server, and a storage device or network resource. The point is to alleviate physical space or servers, less energy usage and maintenance. While virtualization is part of an infrastructure the upfront cost for installation can

For one, how much space on the physical server will be needed? What information will be retained? Will this information be accessed by others? Who will be accessing the information? Will they need a security clearance for access? Who will be the system owner? Where will the virtual system reside? These are all questions that need to be considered prior to deploying a virtual system. Being the system owner means ensuring the system is working properly not to mention receiving the timely updates and patches to secure the network as well as acknowledging others access that need that access. Likely the information stored on a virtual server is for unofficial use only (FOUO), however it can be classified privy to personnel on a need to know basis. If the information happens to be classified, certain access will have to be granted for those …show more content…
Storage Virtualization: This is potentially the reduction in fewer servers and duplicated data which is the actual consolidation of data in a central location to allow users to access the information.
The Benefits of Virtualization It would greatly depend on the nature of work, Information Technology architecture, and the Information Technology budget.
Consolidate Servers This will allow the increase of server infrastructure without the need to purchase additional pieces of hardware. This enables resources to be more efficient.
Conserve Energy There may be a reduction in energy bill. With some, particularly Army installations are following multiple energy-related Federal mandates including Executive Order 13514, the Energy Policy Act of 2005, and the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 to obtain installations energy reduction by the year 2020. (Booth, 2013)
Improve Ease of Management A management console application can be used to upgrade, as one example, versus powering down the machine to install the hardware ensuring the changes were made then powering up again. This reduces the time needed to
This will allow PVM to reduce network usage and improve server performance and data share between servers. One benefit of having multiple servers is if one server breaks down, other server are able to handle the data therefore important information will not be lost. Furthermore staffs are able to access information easier and fast. This will mean it is easy to locate and track information which is needed. One drawback is in the short term is can be very expensive to run multiple servers .Another drawback of having multiple servers at Pvms is it will require skill professional IT staff to run the server therefore staff will need to be retrain to use the new servers which may take time and have high training cost. Lastly a drawback for Pvms is viruses can spread to other servers within
Virtualization is a technology that creates an abstract version of a complete operating environment including a processor, memory, storage, network links, and a display entirely in software. Because the resulting runtime environment is completely software based, the software produces what’s called a virtual computer or a virtual machine (M.O., 2012). To simplify, virtualization is the process of running multiple virtual machines on a single physical machine. The virtual machines share the resources of one physical computer, and each virtual machine is its own environment.
For that hardware virtualisation is more beneficial to handle all servers together and provide data from data centre of server to user virtual desktop.
This also provided the ability to handle large volumes of client requests without creating unwanted delays, thus, low latency and high availability were achieved. Network load balancer provided a continuous service by automatically detecting any failures of a server and redirecting client traffic among the remaining servers. Scalability was another reason to use a server cluster. As traffic increases, additional servers can be added to the cluster if needed to handle the extra
Server-based networks are higher in cost because money is invested for dedicated servers, network operating software, and network administrators with technical expertise required for network management and configuration. On a small network consisting of fewer than five workstations, client/server architecture is not recommended and is very costly.
Hardware, software, support and maintenance costs grow each year with multiple systems in each local region running different types of software and hardware. The application and hardware support teams are larger than could be possible with one integrated solution.
Fortunately, I would not worry with that, instead I would be given the task of organizing money and giving each employee a paycheck, as well as paying extra loans and fees that can come from supplies and technology for digital
When I started, people smoked cigarettes at their desks and data was accessed by a mainframe terminal or on microfiche. Much has changed over the years, and now all the data is accessed using a graphical user interface or WebPages using a PC. Numerous other characteristics have changed. The ranks of management have changed from primarily white male, to a more diverse mix of race and gender. Management tactics have also been altered.
Virtualization technologies provide isolation of operating systems from hardware. This separation enables hardware resource sharing. With virtualization, a system pretends to be two or more of the same system [23]. Most modern operating systems contain a simplified system of virtualization. Each running process is able to act as if it is the only thing running. The CPUs and memory are virtualized. If a process tries to consume all of the CPU, a modern operating system will pre-empt it and allow others their fair share. Similarly, a running process typically has its own virtual address space that the operating system maps to physical memory to give the process the illusion that it is the only user of RAM.
The fundamental idea behind a virtual machine is to remove the hardware of a single computer and make it a self-contained operating environment that behaves as it is a separate computer. Essentially, the virtual machine is software that executes an application and isolates it from the actual operating system and hardware. CPU scheduling and virtual-memory techniques are used so that an operating system can create the illusion that a process has its own processor with its own (virtual) memory. The virtual machine provides the ability to share the same hardware yet run several different operating systems concurrently, as shown in Figure 2-11.
Studies show that the cost of setting up a potential telecommuting situation for an employee or employees is dependent upon the existing technology level of the employer and potential telecommuting employee(s), the type of security network required to safeguard the data transmitted between them and the size of the operation. If an employer has a preexisting computer infrastructure including base units and server capabilities it can decrease the startup costs of a telecommuting operation. For small businesses the investment could be as little...

Several types of cloud storage systems have been developed to supporting both personal and business uses. Cloud storage also a model of networked enterprise storage where the data is stored not only in the user's computer, but also in virtualized of storage, which generally hosted by third parties company.
It simplifies the storage and processing of large amounts of data, eases the deployment and operation of large-scale global products and services, and automates much of the administration of large-scale clusters of computers.
Advances in technology have changed businesses dramatically, in particular the communication and information technology that are conducted in firms, which changed the appearance and pace of businesses over the past few decades. ICT in particular, has evolved a lot over the past 30 years; important information can be stored in computers rather than being in drawers enabling information to be transferred at a greater volume and speed (Guy, 2009). ICT has also expanded various forms of telecommunications and workload conducted in businesses, internet examples of this include: e-mails can be used to communicate with others...
